My uncle asked me to sell his Colt Python for him. Told me we could split the money. He says he bought it new. Serial dates it at 1964. 6 in. Beautiful blued. He doesnt recall shooting it. I (not being an expert) would rate it 95-98%. It is beautiful. No box or paperwork sadly. No slop in the cylinder. What is a realistic/reasonable asking price? In full disclosure i will be listing it here on calguns as schedule permits. I just dont know enough about them to say its a $1k gun or a $3k gun. Thanks.

About what i figured. A guy offering a ~$1700 package, a couple $3k, and a guy who wants to buy one saying $2200. All over the place. Maybe itd be better trade bait and i can give my uncle his half in cash.Comment

Sell it then get a 686Comment

I don't want to buy yours. And, for the record, if you get $3k for a 6" blue let me know as I've got a bunch I'll sell. I own a lot of pythons and know the market very well. You have the most common finish in the most common barrel length. I would ask the other people offering input what they are basing it on. Getting over $2500 for a no box, no papers 4", 8" or 6" is a quite a feat even in CA. But what do I know. Good luck.sigpicComment

There was no shot or slap in my response. I was illustrating that I've gotten 3 answers from 3 different people that are as varied as can be. Yours may be the best answer. I don't know any better which is why I posted the question. As you stated " what do you know?" But I'd bet its a ton more then I do on the subject. Aside from seeing some I have zero experience with this particular gun.Comment

I agree if it's in excellent shape, with original stocks, you will get $2200.00 for it pretty easily the way they have been selling here recently._________________________________Originally posted by KestryllYou're boned.

$2200 is a fair price for a 6" Python. Especially since it doesn't have the original box and papers.
What you ought to do is talk to your uncle and say that the consensus of opinion is that without the box and papers, something in the two grand range seems to be the going price for his particular gun. If he agrees, give him $1100 and keep it in the family. You will be getting it for a very fair price and your uncle will get the same money he would get if you sold it to someone else.
FWIW, I bought a '64 Python three years ago for $875 OTD and back then I thought that was a bit high. Turns out that I bought just before the prices got stupid high.MLC member.

I personally know of a recent sold 6" blued no box in 99% condition that sold for 2K.
Maybe was a reasonable good deal based on the current market.
I think the $2200 figure is accurate.
Though off topic, the 686 recommendation above is pretty good advice.Comment
