1911 magazine upgrades

Any of you upgrade your Kimber/Colt magazines with Tripp spring kits or do you normally just get a new magazine from Tripp ? The kits run about $9.00 vs a new mag which is $36.00...

I upgraded my Springfield mags, was having problems with one of the followers not wanting to let go of the last round. Upgrade kit fixed the issue and have had zero issues with the mags since then. Note that your 8 round mags will only hold 7 after swapping parts as the follower takes up some space in the mag body, 7 rounders seem to be unaffected.

Magazine dimensions are as critical to the correct functioning of the magazine as spring and followers.

Oh, it'll help some times. But, put quality springs and followers into a mag with out-of-spec dimensions and feed lips, and the result will be a wasted $9.00.

You think so ? You're sying that Colt and Kimber mags are out of spec ?

He's saying you should inspect the bodies first because replacing the internals of a damaged body won't solve anything. Colt and Kimber probably have worse QC on their mags too, so it's worth checking out of the box even.

I should follow up by saying that I tested the NEW mag several times by firing, cycling by hand and just plain stripping rounds out with my thumb and found it to hang on the last round every time. I was going to place an order for Tripp mags anyways, and since Springfield was sending a replacement for the bum mag, I figured a $9 gamble was worth it.

That being said, I am a tinkerer by nature, so the upgrade kits were just something else for me to mess with. Were they necessary on the other factory mags? No, but I swapped them anyways and now have some spare springs in case I need them

weak springs...ftf sometimes and slide doesn't lock back after last round
