Out of practice

Went to the indoor range today with the wife. We took the 1911, g21, g17, and the GP100.

We have been going to Lytle creek for the last year with the rifles and the new ARs. We have been shooting the pistols on occasion up there at 25 yards. Mostly the rifles tho.

Today when we went to the indoor range she was getting better than the times before with her wheel gun at 21 feet which is a huge leap from when she first got her gun. I was very impressed.

I, on the other hand was annoyed. At 21 feet, 7 yards, I was not at bull. Up at Lytle creek I can hit the 100 yard steel every time with the .45s and the 9mm and sometimes I do the 25 yard with the pistols.

Today at On-Target I was grouping at 8" radius with the 1911 and the rest of the pistols. The RIA 1911 was my best shot. Boy of boy am I out of practice shooting at a target so close. I moved it to the 25 yard mark but was still onle doing an 8" group.

I really like the AR platform and shooting the 30-06 and .243. The pistols are becoming more and more of a challenge at close range. I guess I just need to keep up the practice with the pistols.

I guess I know now that the pistol is just a back up gun to get to a real gun.

One needs to ask, how big are the steels you are hitting at 100 yards with your 45 and 9mm?

4" to 8". Why do you ask? If you have ever been to Lytle Creek firing Line you would already know.

I have gone shooting with a few people that are on this forum and they were in amazement as was the my buddy that I was teaching to shoot that I was able to hit those target with a pistol at that range.

When I was in the Army the DS was astounded that I was able to do so w/o any specialized training. I told him in 1992, that KY windage played a huge factor. Ironically, we were at Ft. Knox KY.
