    S&W model 10

What are the varrious model 10s worth. I saw a used one, didnt get the secound number, but it had firing pin on hammer and no lock. Bluing was far from worn out but carried. And most of all it had a heavy target type barrel. what is a good guestimate price range?

Got a model 10 as you describe as a police trade in about 10 years ago for 135 bucks. Had I only known. Now you're looking at 3-400 depending...

The Model 10 is just one great revolver in .38 Special. With the heavy barrel and the grooved sight trench I was very surprised at how accurate it was. Its not my most powerful revolver but it is one of my favorites.

the model ten is a classic...it started out with a tapered barrel and then had the heavy barrel added later.

in either case the running price seems to be around 400 or so; there were so many hundreds of thousands made (from the pre-ten days too..) that they are out there and will be trading owners for years.

like a lot of folks i consider the two-inch k-frame with fixed sights to be *the* quintessential snubnosed revolver.

        cheers,

If you are not too picky with appearances and just want a solid nightstand wheelie you can get well used pre war M&Ps for $200 to $250 also.

I picked up my first revolver, a 1948 S&W M&P (Military & Police) .38Spl, a couple of months ago on consignment for $200. I think I got a real bargain. The M&P actually became the Model 10 in 1957, when S&W began giving model numbers to their handgun range. My M&P has a very smooth action, comfortable to shoot, and is accurate.

                  Timberland,

Model 10's, like new in the box, can run up to about $400, depending on its age and what variation it is. But that's about tops unless it's something unique.

Less pristine guns will be lower priced. Often times pricing reflects how the gun appears more than its mechanical condition. I've seen gun in excellent mechanical shape that were seriously ugly in appearance for as little as $125.

M&P revolvers (Pre-Model 10's made before 1957) in pristine shape will easily fetch $400 and up, especially if complete with the original box.

Last April, I picked up this NIB 5-inch Model 10-5 from a local dealer for $375.

This one is just about perfect. A used one with considerable wear on the finish might cost $100 less.

One more look (I gotta show it off)

Turners thought this one was a Mod 10 from mid '60s. I sent for an authentication letter from "Mr. Jinks" and it turned out to be a M&P .38 that was shipped March 1948. It had very little wear, and I got it for $250.

Turners is retarded, how could a pre 10 with no model number be from the mid 1960s'? Nice gun with the diamond grips and Win ball ammo.

I've been searching for a Model 10 and I have not ran into a nice specimen for a reasonable price so I ended up buying a 19-4 instead. I've seen a few nice model 10s, but $550 w/o box and papers is too much for me. Maybe I didn't want it that much.

They are GREAT solid basic revolvers... I have a couple of them...

I really like the heavy barrel...

I'd buy a model 10 or 13 like you described anytime... within reason of course $$
