    Gun proof marks and standards

I was just wondering what are the standard of proofing guns in USA vs Foreign countries, are all guns imported to USA have to be re-proofed, are foreign standards higher

The below link contains a brief overall summary of firearms proofing both here in the United States and abroad.

No U.S. importer actually "proofs" an imported firearm here. That's done at the factory and usually involves shooting a double powder charged round through the gun. At least the reputable companies all do this test.

If we only look at handguns, western European handguns seem to have a higher quality standard vs. U.S. for a mass marketed model. YMMV. My sample size is small...<100, handling and checking other people's guns.

i don't think there is any proof test on US made pistols, if they were tested there is no marking to indicate that they were tested.
Germany on the other hand has law or regulation, that all pistol need proof test and marked after the test.
You can see the proof mark on the German made H&K and Sig.
I am not sure about other countries.

The glock proof marks was the thing that got me thinking why there is no such marks on Austrian made glocks, they are still imported aren't they?

This one was imported to make up for the crazy demand back 08/09. I believe that it was originally destined for the European market (which is why it has the proof marks and import stamp).

This one is more typical of what you see for the Glocks destined for the U.S. market.
