went to the range today and....

boy was the line long as heck at Reed's in Santa Clara. seems everyone was in line waiting to get a rifle of some kind.

was going to take the test... but we went there shooting instead. we tried out all sorts of guns, which were the ones my friends i wanted to get as our first pistol.

    9mm
    Glock19
    Sig P229
    CZ 75 SP01

    .22
    M&P22

i had some close groups with the G19 and the CZ. the CZ i had more sucess with it right off the bat. recoil and muzzle flip was very subtle, felt very controllable compared to the G19. i love the ergo on the CZ, it really fits like a glove! the G19, i tried to get use to it.. but after 50 rounds, i still didn't feel very comfortable... it seems at time, i wanted to just shoot the CZ instead. the P229, i thought i would love, because of the ergo is very similar. i think if it was changed to medium, it would feel better. i had some nice group with the P229, but somehow that gun didn't leave too much of impression on me compared to the G19 or CZ.

i shot the .22 and somehow i shot worse than the 9mm. don't know why... just couldn't get the aim down. my friend had the same issue too.. but he had better luck with it than me. we were shooting all at 10 yards out and when i aim for the head between the eyes, i ended up shooting top of the head. i'm pretty sure it's the user and not the gun.

i was told the CZ SP01 is very hard to come by, so just have to keep checking around. after 100 rounds, i still like the way it handles, just heavy. so the P01 is starting to look real good, even though i haven't shot one yet.

however, that being said.. can any of the CZ owners chime in? i'd love to hear how the SP01 feels compared to the P01? are the ergo the same? i see the P01 is also on the roster till 2/26/2014, so i'd like to get that before then.

    thanks..

    p.s. G19 gen3, i had 4 shells hit my head.. glad i was wearing a hat.

The P-01 is a lot lighter and snappier than the SP-01.

Snappier than G19 or the P229?

I've shot and owned the P-01, P229, and G19 but never shot them side by side. But I am going to take a wild guess that the G19 I less snappier than the other two simply due to the lower bore axis.

The P-01 is a lot snappier than the SP-01. It's not a steel frame like the SP-01 is. The P-01 has an alloy frame so the recoil is more prevalent. The added weight in the front of the SP-01 makes it more controllable.

The ergos are somewhat the same on the P-01. Granted it's a smaller version of the SP-01. However, it has a decocker so if you plan on doing any trigger work, good luck. It's more of a carry gun.

wow.. thanks for all the feedback. now if they have grip ergo like the SP01 on the Glock19, i'd be in heaven. cuz that's my only grip with it.

tbc: i hadn't considered about the low bore axis.. i'd have to look more into that.

quippy: i love the trigger on the SP01, but heard the P-01 has a different trigger. i didn't know the decocker will prevent any trigger job done. another thing for me to consider. thx.

For a pistol that shoots like a G19 and with an ergo grip, look into the M&P full size. One of its attribute is the exchangeable back strap that you can play with to fit your hand.

The SP-01 would be also my first choice amongst the handguns you've mentioned. If you spot one, get it

                  Good luck OP!

Glock is a terrible example of a firearm do not buy one.

The Sig or CZ would be your best bet out of those.
