Kimber Eclipse Custom ii in 10mm or .45ACP

I just learned they have another Eclipse Custom ii in 10mm. Perhaps I should add a 10mm to the armory.

    I have 1 other handgun and it's in .45ACP.

I already have plenty of ammo for it but not a drop of 10mm.

    10mm is a flatter trajectory?..

Not sure if I'm considering 10mm to get my hands on the gun or if because I would like another caliber.
It's also a bit more rare I imagine..

I have been wanting one of these myself. I already reload .40 S&W so 10mm has a foot in the door plus I really like Kimber.

10mm is a great round. Get one or two. I thought of selling my kimber 10mm. But it makes such a pig hunting sidearm.

Leave well enough alone - .45acp for ME...

Ive been wanting a 10 myself... split between Glock 20 or the Kimber Eclipse. Already have two Glocks but no 1911s... but Ive heard mixed feelings about 10mm 1911s regarding excessive wear w/stout 10mm loads, making me uneasy going that route.

Hopefully someone who owns one will chime in..

If you reload, 10mm should be @ no disadvantage with cost factors, aside from possibly finding brass online intially.

Good luck OP. Tough choice. FWIW, I would more likely pick a 1911 in .45 ACP - any manufacturer. I would get a 10mm but in a Glock.

I know I want a 10mm some day, but do I want it for the Kimber.. Ugh..
I guess I'm thinking I'll stay the course for a .45 but this has gotten me more interested in the 10mm cartridge.

What little I could find was ~$0.80/round for regular target stuff

I thought .45 was expensive when I stocked up at ~$0.35/round

Yeah my first 1911 should be .45, if not all of them I like the round, have plenty of it, and it's a 1911.

                      ^^^Good enough reasons for me

Have you considered a Kimber Stainless Raptor II by chance? As much as I like the Eclipse, which I think is a beautiful 1911, I like the Stainless Raptor II better. Maybe worth a look. I have that one and it is my favorite handgun by far - 1911's and non-1911's alike.

I saw one here for sale for $1,250 OBO. Just an FYI.

I have the kimber target 2 stainless in 10MM. It is a great shooter, comparable to my TRPs. I like to shoot Underwood 10MM ammo. When they have free shipping, a box of 10MM is $27 (limited weights). I've got both the 155 JHP @ 1500 fps and the 165 TMJ @ 1400 fps.

I have a Kimbers in 9mm, 10mm and .45 ACP. I was never a Kimber guy, but since I owned my first, I have continued to buy them, great value.

The 10mm is the only one with which I have had feed issues. Specifically, the Kimber 10mm had feed issues with 180gr FMJ/FP bullet profiles. The problem was the feed ramp came back too far and overlapped the frame and the flat point would jam on the lower edge of the feed ramp. I had to re-contour the lower part of the ramp slightly to get it to reliably feed. Otherwise, it has been a great shooter.

10mm is a terrific caliber if you reload.

If you have other .45 Auto 1911's, then by all means go for the 10mm. If this is going to be your first 1911, absolutely .45 Auto is the way to go, it is a magical combination.

I vote 45 because while 10mm is cool, I simply do not see it on shelves. Reloading could help you with that but if you are at the mercy of gun stores or online ammo sales, I would stick with 45acp.
