ca approved double stack 1911?

Curious here, why a double stack in 9mm?

Dad used to have one in built up in .38 super and I have a couple of mags left and the gun was sold a long time ago. I just hope all double stack 1911 mags are the same.

Since you already have legally owned standard ("high") capacity magazines, the Para-Ordnance PX 18-9 Stainless is an outstanding choice.

I must congratulate you on those mags that your dad gave you by the way. Para didn't start making the 18-9 series pistols until 1998, and the only .38Super they make is a single stack introduced in 2006. So you are indeed very lucky that your dad acquired those mags and then gave them to you in such timely fashion.

It is possible that you may have to have them altered though, because a .38 Super mag is not likely to fit in a 1911 that was made specifically for 9mm, .38 Super is a longer cartridge. I don't remember off the top of my head if the 9mm Paras are a smaller frame or if they use spacers in the mags to account for using the .45ACP frames.

If for some reason those mags don't work out in your new pistol, and you decide to look for a doublestack 1911 based on it's qualities rather than just it's compatibility with your (of course legally) already owned high cap magazines, I would suggest SVI, Infinity, Bartso, or a PPT STI. Keep your eyes peeled for something like that. Para has some nice looks but they're hit or miss, I have seen quite a few of them "break."

I didnt even think about the 9mm having a smaller frame, I'll have to try my mags on one if I can find a p18-9 at a local store. I know the frame on Pop's gun was origional purchased as a .45 and then built on from there. I know the mags where not cheap but thet have no name or logo stamped any where. If they do not fit . I can buy some rebuild kits and switch out and/or modify parts so as to have the same number of standard cap mags as I started with?

I don't understand, whats the purpose of getting a double stacked gun if you're restricted to using a 10 round magazine? What am I missing?
