If that is a 70's series pre Swartz Kimber and not a Kimber II, they don't happen along often.Selling that to buy a CZ would be sacrilege. If you insist on selling go to Guns America or other website and look at COMPLETED SALES to get a ball park figure. Box and papers add a premium. Your decision. .38 super is a caliber without a great following unless a Kimber collector.
You could sell it and Still not find a CZ but you are comparing Mercedes to Yugos. No offense to CZ fanbois.I've had 2 and sold both.
My decision was to keep what I use only and sell the rest .I'm down to 11 from 16 but I use all of them

your son will be happy that you kept the Kimber and will be fortunate to receive it as a family heirloom some day.

Get a 9mm barrel and then shoot it. 38 super is hard to find and pricey. I had a RIA 38 super I converted to 9mm. If not then sell it and buy something you will actually enjoy. You have other guns to hand down to your son.

Since you have someone to give it to, maybe keep it. Not sure how .38 super ammo's supply will be when he is ready.

I personally sell what I don't shoot unless it was gifted to me. I don't enjoy having a gun just to keep and look at. At least not currently.

              Good luck with your decision!

Get it converted to 9mm and shoot the ***** out of it. You'll need a new barrel and maybe a new recoil spring the current magazines should work just fine.

Shoot or sell. Even if you dont need the $ it just sitting there is a sad waste.

I had a few that I purchased back in the mid-90s and didn't shoot them so I sold them. For example, West German Sig 228 & Glock 19 (Gen2). Kept the Colts. I regret selling them. However, the $ was to upgrade to a Sig X5 which eased the pain of selling. I don't think I would sell again unless it's to upgrade to something much nicer.

I personally do not see any Kimber's as collector's status ... don't sell but trade it.
Series I Kimber's with the Clackamas roll stamp are very desirable.

                              I shoot 9mm most of the time(cz75b, shadow, 1911 in 9mm, m&p9)
The only reason I have not sold it is that I probably never find another one
