I went to get nightsights installed on my Springfield XD .45 tactical and the gun store told me I had to send it to springfield. Is this true. They said it will crack something if they install it. Not to many details from them but I dont really wanna ship my gun. Thanks in advance.

Oh, yeah... if it didn't work, they wouldn't sell these tools:
Guns for sale. Gun Parts for Sig Sauer, Heckler & Koch, AR-15, Glock, 1911 parts. Your top gun supply superstore!
Not really cost effective for one gun, but I've got one for The Glocks, since I own more than a couple of them and keep buying more.Disenfranchised NRA Benefactor Life Member.

We typically refer them back to Sprinfield. Not because something cracks, just because I have not got a tool that fits right.
I also refer Kimbers back. Theirs have loc tight or something holding them and I wont use heat. (I think frank has cut them off with a mill) I have top of the line sight pushers, I have also seen sights so tight stuff gets damaged.
A 20 dollar job is not worth the risk on certain guns.
That ad for the site pusher says righ on it it will not work on the tactical site.
You dont have to ship your whole gun you only have to ship your slide.Last edited by BigMac; 07-12-2008, 4:21 PM.Comment

Yeah, missed that he was talking about the Tactical. I have a Tactical that I used the B&J tool for the front sight. The B&J tool works okay for some guns, but I didn't like the flex it it so I mostly stopped using it and went to mfg. specific tools. Take care if doing this yourself.
The B&J comes with fittings that contact the slide, both round and square. The square one is great for the flat dovetails like the front on the Tactical, it won't walk off the sight if there is a little flex.Disenfranchised NRA Benefactor Life Member.

Hijack (sorta) warning...
When aftermarket sights are installed, do I need to get the sights adjusted for zero? If yes, how?NoobShooter

Never tried it but Ive heard from a few sources that the factory rear sight is a real bear to remove and will usually break or break the sight pusher if not done rightI went to get nightsights installed on my Springfield XD .45 tactical and the gun store told me I had to send it to springfield. I can't remove my stock sights with the universal tool so I have to send it out next week, I will probably send it to Scott Springer up in Oregon since He has the tool for the job and He will sight it in also.
