    need help chosing an .xd

Turners has the .40 and the 9mm on sale for 459 and also comes with some cruddy package deal.

My question is, would it be worth purchasing in black and having it duracoated. I was thinking about the stainless slide but it costs almost 80 dollars more.

Now about size... I wanted the .40 due to the larger size and i would be able to purchase a 9mm barrel. Then, i realized how cheap 9mm ammo is. Would i save in the long run just getting a 9mm pistol. or should i get the .40 and buy a 9mm barrel and have the best of both worlds? The barrels are around 159.

If you did not already have a pistol of any sorts i'd say just get the 9mm and you'll be happy as can be. It will be cheap to shoot and it will be fun. If you already have a 9mm i'd say go for the 40 for something a bit different. Like you said you can always toss in a 9mm barrel and call it good. Its a toss up.

If you could find one I'd also consider the .45acp. The ammo is cheaper then .40sw and gives you a lil kick too. I've yet to shoot one, but i've heard nothing but great things.

I went a totally different way and opted for the .357sig. Its my personal favorite round, its beyond badass. I also opted for the 9mm barrel

I agree, if you have a 40.cal then go with the 9mm. But if you have a 9mm then go 40 because you can convert it to 9 if you wish.

personally I went w/ the XD40 Bitone so I can go back to a 9mm later. I didnt want to have that "what if" or "I should of" feeling. I'd rather spend 150+ mags for a 9mm conversion then another $500+ for the 40SW. Either way you will be happy.

I got a nice used xd40 on calguns recently for 325 transfered with 4 mags....it was bitone green frame/black slide

i plan on one day getting a 9mm barrel to have the best of both worlds. I'd take the 40 over the 9mm since those 40 mags somehow accept 15 rounds of 9mm

.40 beratta mags are easy to modify to fit the XD-9 and will hold 15+ if modifyed right. You can fine allot of beratta mags on Ebay for cheep too. I picked up 5 .40 cal SS for 28$

and I am shooting at the expert level in IDPA with a stock XD-9. I just love it over my beratta .40

I would go with the .40 cal. I looked up the price of fed ammo for both on ammoman and the difference is approx. $.08 a round. That translates to $8.00 more for every 100 rounds. ymmv. figure $80.00 more for 1000 rounds. If you by miwall reloads at a show it will be cheaper. Buying the .40 cal + the barrel will cost you $300.00 less than buying a seperate .40 cal at a later time. Not to metion the dros+tax. Even if you shot all 1000 rounds before you purchased the 9mm barrel, it would still be a 220.00 difference. As you can see, you would need to shoot over 3 cans to offset the savings of buying a barrel as opposed to a whole new gun.
I usually shoot 100 rounds in an hour at the range. Of course, I've unloaded whole cans on a camping trip.

The point I'm making is that unless you are planning on shooting a lot of ammo,in the near future, the .40 cal. appears to be the best deal in the long term.

Well.... anything you have that is questionable, you might as well get it.

If you can't get the .40 out of your mind get the XD40. You can always get the barrel down the road. Or you can pick it up the same day as the gun. Since you're most likely gonna spend more than the $459, either with the barrel or the finish... go for the barrel. I know you're not very enthusiastic with the stainless finish, and since the gun is gonna be a range gun for the time being, the factory finish should hold up fine.

My vote: XD40 with 9mm barrel, factory finish. Now stop wasting your day off thinking about it and go buy it.

I have a question can you chang just the barrel or do you need to chang the slide and berrel. I know that the beritta you need to swap both to chang callburs.

It is a drop in barrel that you can buy at pistolgear.com I believe the maker is EFK dragon. They always seem to be out of stock though. Personally I would go with the regular black. You can go to xd-hs2000.com and they duracoat the slides for around $60.00 including shipping if I remember correctly. Then you can have it any color you want. I saw one guy get his wifes duracoated in pink

If I were you I'd pick up what you intend to use it for. I picked up the XD9 because 9mm ammo is cheap and I can shoot it more than say a gun in .45 or .40. If its going to be a self defense gun then .40 or .45 is your ticket. I'm not a big fan of the .357 sig caliber.
