springfield xd cleaning

I picked up a used xd and wanted to put it through a general cleaning and i made a mistake i think . There was a lot of gunk inside the frame and I hit it with CLP thinking it would clean it up and i tried to dry it up as best as possible but so much oil is continuing to ooze through all the seams and creeks on the gun the whole frame is slippery and i can't get it cleaned. I grabbed remington shotgun cleaner from my LGS (recommended) but just curious does anyone know if this is 100% safe on the polymer? He said just hang it in the air and dump it with spray and it will evaporate on its own.

I tried gun scrubber once (similar product maybe).
The evaporate seems to over dry (probably not) but I would apply oil soon after the blast.
Not too much (but you know now), the lower does not need much oil.

hehe you used to much oil so you added more cleaner? haha well no worries the CLP and the remington cleaner is fine. If you use a lot of oil just wipe it down.. If that much was used it will continue to leak out but just wipe it off or let it sit on a towel... No big deal and lesson learned! If its a gun I am kinda storing for a lil while I will add extra oil to the frame and inside the barrel anyways. Good luck my friend and welcome to Calguns!

Compressed air works good to get the cleaner out.

Yeah I kinda hit it with the same amount of CLP I use to clean my AR bolt! That was clearly to much! Haha, thanks for the input. Thanks all!

I'm on my third XD. Sprays don't bother them. I use brake cleaner on them. That will clean all the gunk out including all the oil. Reoil when you are done.

I use my air compressor with a small air gun everytime I clean my firearms, it helps blow any cleaner and oil out, if you use too much.

Try to get a little portable compressor, if you don't already have one,very handy for cleaning.

Even canned air from a computer store or office supply store works really well.
I use a little Hoppe's gun grease on my slide rails and the end of the barrel where it gets wear from the slide.

I used gun scrubber for the first time last night. It really really cleans the gunk out! And it really does seem to dry extra extra dry and leave bare metal feeling sort of "over dry", like its been in the desert for 100 years. Definitely have to real lube after using it!

Hey if you can't manage to get all the excess oil out of the frame and its still leaking out let me know. Im in the 818, and have detail stripped many XD's and could help you disassemble.

Taking it apart to the bare frame and washing out all the oil would do the trick.
