    I don't think they are REQUIRED, they are just something certain companies have thrown in, like S&W. I'm not sure if Ruger wheelguns have any lock on them... my only rugers are Vaqueros that don't have them, and they are brand new.

            my new ruger blackhawk has it, but you dont know about it unless you take the grips off. you would have to drill a hole in the grip in order to use it, well that and order a key from ruger

                  Ruger does put locks on their wheelguns these days. There would be so much less *****ing and moaning about S&W if they would get rid of the pie hole and put their lock under the grip like the others do.
