Hi everyone I'm sorry if this has been answered but I haven't been able to find anything on the subject. My grandfather owned a 1911 and reported it as lost but the gun was later found after his passing. I was wondering how we would go about reporting it as found as every call I've made has led me nowhere. The last local police department told me I would have to bring in my grandmother to the department and she's sickly so I'd really rather not drag her 60 miles so she can report a gun as found is there anyway I can do this using the serial number and telling them who the gun was registered to originally over the phone?

It may have not been registered. Try filling out this and sending it in...........thought I had a link, I don't. It is the operation of law/familial transfer form and someone will soon have a link.Tarn Helm, WTF???

Can the grandmother sign a letter, perhaps have a travelling notary public witness and attest to it? She could sign a letter saying it was found after his passing. Send that along with the interfamiliar form to transfer it to the grandson. Grandson needs HSC to legally possess it.
Worst case, you do the above and they say you can't, and you're no worse off.
I'm not a lawyer, so don't take the above as legal advice. If you can afford one (and you really want to spend the money for it), it'd probably be best to have a lawyer handle the whole thing. You could always save the lawyer step in case the first method I suggested doesn't work.Comment
