Nothing standard about it as it requires the use of a custom, extended barrel. So you have to shop around for a shop that has one for the specific pistol you have in mind (1911's are common). Or maybe you get lucky and you find an FFL willing to procure one on his own nickel, anticipating future use. Or if you're willing to spend the money, you can pay for the custom barrel yourself. But generally it pays to find a nearby FFL that has already done an SSE for the specific pistol you want.

      Often, $65-100 for the SSE...

Some charge for the transfer on top of that.

Some don't charge at all if you order the gun from them.

          sticky on top. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=383692

has a whole list of places that do SSE's.

OC Armory - $125 out the door. www.ocarmory.com click on services. $100 for SSE converstion + $25 for DROS = $125 out the door.

I've done plenty with Mike & Pat at OC Armory already, great guys!

Standard fees I've seen have been from $0.00 to $100.00. If you get it near $50.00 its a good deal.

Prices vary with gun type and availability of cheap aftermarket barrels.

1911s with standard dimension barrels (but not necessarily the 'bell barrels' on 3" guns), Glocks, Sigs seem to be the reigning champs due to ease/cost.

More rare guns - say, an IMI Jericho as an example - that don't have common aftermarket barrel supplies at low cost - require a spare barrel to be acquired and mangled. That costs $$$. [It's unlikely you'd want your original barrel to be welded on, etc. since that would be hard to back out without damage.]
