    STI Spartan 3

So, I did it again. Bought another 1911.

Found this one for a decent price so I picked it up. Previous owner was a huge 1911 guy, particularly STIs, so I spent a good two hours shooting the **** with him about some of his $3K race guns. He gave me a box of Remington UMC with it, so on my way home with the gun I dropped by the range and put the ammo through the gun.

I took a few minutes to adjust as much of the over-travel out of the trigger as I could, made it feel absolutely beautiful, barely any trigger movement between shots.

This gun is pretty similar to an RIA tactical, in that Armscor makes the guns for STI with the exception that the hammer, sear, disconnector, grip safety and trigger are STI parts. Barrel is match grade and hard-chromed, and the FLGR is also hard chromed. Sight cuts are slightly different as well I believe. Dawson precision has an STI specific front sight that fits these guns, so I will be rocking a front night sight shortly.

As far as function, the gun shot very accurately. On a standard silhouette target I was shooting tighter groups than I do with my 3" Kimber Ultra Carry II. The gun did have 4 failures to return to battery, half way through the magazine. I have a strong feeling that the problem was due to a lack of lubrication, and possibly the gun still breaking in, as the prior owner only had 50 rounds through the gun himself.

I took the gun home to clean it and found the rails on the slide and frame to be practically bone dry

This was quite disturbing to me as this guy claimed to be a huge 1911 with several race guns. I always thought rule number 1 with a 1911 is keep it lubricated. My mistake for not lubing it before the range trip.

Cleaned the gun, and applied a liberal amount of Tetra gun grease to the rails on the slide and frame as well as the barrel. Planning on going to the range on my way home from work to run another box of ammo through it. If that goes well I will be putting another 200 rounds through it after Thanksgiving and supposing I experience no other failures I will be making it my new winter carry gun. I like the Kimber, but surprisingly, I actually like how this slightly heavier and longer gun feels and carries vs the lighter/shorter Kimber.

Pics tomorrow, I'm just too lazy to pull it back out of the safe at the moment.

"Moms Demand Action" sounds less like a gun control group and more like the title of a porn flick from the mid-90s.

Some people love to collect guns, but don't maintain them well.

For example, one of our doctors loves cars, he has a porsche 911, and it starts and runs terribly. Then when it really runs bad, he takes it to the dealer and gets it tuned.

Some ppl are just weird like that.

Let's see the pics or it's just a story.
