    Right laser for 1911

I recently purchased and freed from jail a nearly new Springfield 1911 Loaded SS. I'll be using it for some competition shooting and also wanted to mount a laser sight to the non rail weapon.

I found a Crimson Trace LG-401 that says it would be right for the Spinger but looking at the photos it does not seem to have enough clearance on the right hand grip for the ambi-safety on the right side to be depressed.

What is the right Crimson Trace for the SA or is there a better one?

Check out the Surefire MR07 for about ~100, adds a rail mount.

Then you can mount a light & laser combo.

I put Crimson Trace laser grips on several of my self defense handguns and like them a lot, but they don't play well with ambidextrous safeties and aren't legal for competition. I'd just have a gunsmith switch your 1911 to a non-ambi safety. Go with the front activated 401 or 401G. You can just deactivate the laser for competitions.

Most ambi safety's need to be bobbed to work with the Crimson Trace laser grips.

Kimber as well as most manufactures sell them.

I have CT Master Series grips on my Ed Brown SF and it works fine with the ambi safety. I keep the laser off for the most part, but I like having the option of turning it on if I need to shoot from cover or from unconventional positions.

            A laser emits in a straight line. A 1911 doesn't.

At social distances it won't really matter. At long range it won't really work.

I appreciate the comments...especially this one! I'll take a look at some of the options mentioned. I know that the laser is not to be used during competitions but as the weapon will double as a regular SD piece the added laser will assist in target acquisition in low light and in less than favorable shooting conditions.
