    In my opinion:

    M&P Pros:
    More aftermarket support
    More ergonomic

    SR9 Pros:
Easy for user to remove mag disconnect
    Better trigger

Haven't shot a Ruger but the M&P with Apex has an awesome trigger. The M&P9c is a great shooting gun.

I agree. I owned one. Sold it because I already had a G19 and didn't really need another compact 9mm. It's a great shooting gun. I'm not a trigger snob by any means, but having shot the SR9c, I think it's trigger is a better out of the box.

If the OP wants to spend the money to upgrade, that is his choice. That is why I said that a Pro for the M&P was aftermarket support.

I have a SR9C and a SR40C. The mag disconnect removal will take you a minute to remove. The Trigger is great and better without the disconnect. Reversable blackstrap, sharp checkering on the plastic, ambi safety, adjustable sights, olive both.
Have not shot a MP9C. Wanted to get the …40 one, but since I loved the SR9C I opted to get the SR40C. Seems the gun grips your hand better than the M&P. Better trigger also.

I will vote for the M&P... I've shot both... The Smith felt more at home in my hand

I also vote m&p. Took me under 2 min to remove the mag disco and stupid strip down bar. Just pulled the pin, springs and arms out. Not extra parts or spacers needed.

                I vote M&P.

                Ruger plastic guns suck.

My SR9c went back to Ruger twice for the same problem (light firing pin strikes) and it never got repaired to my satisfaction. Their customer service is top notch, and they make excellent revolvers, but I don't see myself ever owning another Ruger semi-auto pistol.

(Just to note, I am not trying to hate on Ruger, just being honest. My 357mag SP101 snubby is one of my favorite carry guns and I trust my life to it)

My real vote would be do a SSE on a XDm 3.8 compact if there was a third option. Much nicer gun than either, and no stupid BS mag disconnect.

The SR9 is a tinker toy next to the M&P, Glock and XD. Love Ruger, hate their semi-auto handguns. There ought to be a special place in hell for their semi-auto handgun design team. They have forgotten KISS.

Love my M&P 9c fits my hand better than the Ruger. Haven't done the trigger yet it's the only thing I'll change and after 2000 rounds the factory trigger is not all that bad.

I went with the Ruger SR40c over the M&P for numerous reasons that I believe are conclusive:

                      1. The Ruger has far and away the better trigger.

                      2. The Ruger has a slide safety; the M&P does not (deal breaker for me. I won't own a semi-auto without a slide safety.)

                      3. You can actually buy magazines for the Ruger. Good luck finding them for the M&P. It is notorious that extra magazines for the M&P series are hard to find.

                      4. Ergonomically I liked the Ruger better although it was pretty close since really the two guns are not that different.

You can get an M&P with a thumb safety.

I think the pros and cons for the compacts are pretty close. You can't go wrong with either gun. However, in full size, I prefer the M&P by leaps and bounds. My M&P40 is my HD gun.

I agree...they are not in the same league (not sure about the going to Hell or the XD part though). Get the M&P. If you want a Ruger, their revolvers are great!

I've owned both the SR9 and M&P9FS and have to give it to the M&P. The Ruger had sharp edges on the slide. I cut my hand a couple of times on the sharp safety lever while racking the slide. The Ruger was very rough with a lot of tool marks. Just take a look at the barrels. The trigger is nice though. Better than the M&P and Glock. The M&P feels great but wish they had undercut the trigger guard a little more. I would pass on the Ruger and get the M&P.

The new mp trigger is more than adequate and very glock like once broken in.
