    pistol build question...

I would like to build a straight pull bolt action pistol on an AR lower.
Do I still need to have a bullet butten if the pistol is not a Semiautomatic?

Due to CA's unsafe handgun laws, the bolt-action pistol will need to be built as a dimensionally compliant single-shot pistol.

Due to CA's SBR laws, you would only be able to use an AR receiver that was DROS'd as a "handgun" or built from an "80%" receiver.

After it is built as a dimensionally compliant single-shot pistol, it can then be legally modified/reconfigured into a bolt-action pistol that accepts detachable magazines outside the pistol grip.
