I'm looking for a compact .45 for CCW that I can get all fingers on the grip (no stubby grips). I prefer all stainless or stainless slide and alloy frame... I'm just not a fan of polymer handguns. I'm left handed, so I'd like an ambi safety. And I wanted it on a budget, like less than $600.

I like the S&W 4513tsw, but I can't find any. The S&W 457 is ok, but no ambi safety (can you replace the stock safety for ambi?).

Any others you can think of, given my criteria?

I have a Springfield Champion that fits that bill. Don't know what they are going for. No ambi safety though, would have to add it.

3.5" Rock Island 1911 fits your bill. Can be found under $500 if you look hard.

Am I getting too picky, or are my choices just artificially limited?

Not the most compact gun in the world but the Ruger P90 fits all of your other criteria. And you'll even have money left over of ammo.

If your stuck on the safety (and Ambi at that), then your probably stuck with a very cheap 1911.
