    compensated barrels

What is the benefit to upgrading a glock 34 factory barrel to a lone wolf compensated barrel? What do the vents do? Is it even worth getting?

It's supposed to help with recoil. The force of the gasses go outwards through the vents instead of just out from the barrel. And it looks cool

I heard just putting more weight on the end of the barrel would achieve basically the same thing

I have fired a friends g34 with a ported barrel (don't know if it was a lone wolf). It did look kinda cool, but meh, I really didn't notice a lot of difference in the recoil from mine w/o the ported barrel.

        Maybe in a larger caliber.
        Sorry, not sorry.

Basic physics. For every force, there is a equal and opposite what? force! Venting bore gases upward helps to push muzzle downward, which helps to counter muzzle flip created by: 1) recoil, which is the opposite force that is forcing the bullet out the bore and down the range) and 2) subsequently causing your hand to rotate about the pivot that is your wrist.

Just figured out why it's called a compensated barrel, I hope?

How about their slides? What benefits are there to the lwd slide over the stock one?

Not a huge scope of experience for me on compensated barrels... A buddy of mine bought a Storm Lake compensated barrel for his Glock 21 (.45)... I honestly noticed very little difference shooting it with the stock barrel and the compensated version in regards to recoil.

snappier cartridges I'd imagine would benefit from it far greater tho, might take some of the edge off a .40 or .357sig

In other words, I'd skip it on a 9mm pistol, waste of money imo

In the race world people have to use really hot ammo to get the comp to work effectively, especially for pistol.

You probably wont notice with weak factory or weak reloads.

Why do they load ammo so hot? By swapping out the original barrel and upgrading to a compensated barrel, would your handgun be able to handle hotter loads? Or is that where an upgraded slide helps in withstanding hotter loads?

Its not that is handles more but you can load 9mm to 600fps or 1200fps and still be below max pressure.

More gas pressure makes comp more effective.

Well, you DID ask what the vents do.

Effective? That's subjective. They help some, but won't turn everyone into crack shots. Worth the cost? That depends on how big of deal each dollar spent is to you. IMO, practice and instruction is probably money better spent.

I have a Glock 23c which has a factory ported barrel. Shooting it side by side with my brother's standard Glock 23 you can really tell the difference. Especially in rapid fire. His jumps up a little bit with each shot. Mine just pushes straight back at you. Ported barrels work very well on .40 pistols but unless you're shooting really hot 9mm I don't think its going to make a huge difference. Ported barrels also make the gun a lot louder to the user. Dont fire a gun with a ported barrel without hearing protection unless you absolutely have to. It can be quite painful.
