    Taurus revolver

Is the Taurus 627 Tracker revolver with a 4" barrel considered an OK gun among the revolver folks in Northern CA? What if it was a .357 magnum, had been fired less than 50 rounds, and comes with 400 rounds of125 gr. ammo and a set of RCBS reloading dies? What would be a decent price for such a package?
thanks to those in the know.

I'd buy it at $200. I got a Taurus .38 a couple years ago with 2 safari land speed loaders for $80. They don't make the greatest guns but if you get them cheap enough its worth it. When mine breaks I won't be out much.

The gun new goes for $599 according to this website

So a reasonable price would be $500 for used, but if you had the ammo and the reloading dies then 600-650 seems like a pretty good price to pay.

As far as the company goes, I've owned several Taurus firearms over the years, and although they don't have the perfect fit and finish, of all of them the revolvers were the only ones I kept. I have a Taurus 357mag in my car at all times, with some speed loaders. They don't have the best fit and finish but they never gave me problems. Something like a smith and Wesson you can really feel the craftsmanship in them, they lock up really nice and everything about the firearms seems looked over several times, Taurus seems like they put the gun together, tested it, and put it on the shelf, it's not as refined as the more expensive models. But they work, and you won't have a problem with their revolvers.

I had a Mid 1990s Taurus 608 first gen SS 8 shot 357 magnum and was the original owner. This was my first experience with revolvers and left a bad taste for Taurus...it had timing issues and constantly loosened up, even with loctite.

Now I recently purchase a used, made in 1996 S&W 686-4, 4" 357magnum...I absolutely love it. If I were you, I'd look out for a used Ruger GP, Colt or S&W revolver....btw: a new RUGER GP100 357mag should be around $600

I owned a 4" 627 and accidentally sold it. Thought I needed the money and told a 20 year old he could buy it from me on his birthday. Didn't end up needing the money but sold it anyway because I gave my word. Miss it for sure. Was a good gun with no problems. Sold it with nice $90 holster for $400. Had less than 500 rds through it too.

yeah, I would look for a Ruger GP100 or SP101 for under 600 if thats your budget.

excluding the reloading stuff, which I know nothing about, with the ammo, $475 buy, $600 sell. Hopefully you understand that.

Taurus makes good stuff, and keeps S&W honest.

I would too, Ruger makes the strongest wheel guns. They are a little clunkier and heavier, but that is because they have meat.

A friend of mine purchased a snub nose Rossi (made by Taurus) .357 revolver. It worked fine with .38 Special ammunition, but when firing any .357 magnum round, the action would size up after 2 or 3 shots. Something in the internal lockwork was getting bounced out of place. So she then bought an actual Taurus .357, with a 4 inch barrel. We figured Taurus was higher quality than Rossi, and she'd just gotten unlucky. Nope, exactly the same issue. She now has a Smith & Wesson 66, and I will never buy a Taurus revolver.

but the only reason why someone buys a Taurus is because they either can't or won't spend the money on a Ruger or Smith.
And they know they will get something serviceable for a lot less.

Thing is, there are deals on SW and ruger that mean you don't need to buy cheap. But you have to be patient. The OP deal sounds great given the ammo and reloading stuff, if he does that.

I would like a 4" tracker. If you go through with it and want to flip the revolver let me know, dwtt. I am norcal too.

Ive got the tracker 627 and love it. Fun accurate gun, one of the last ones id sell from my collection. It one of those to rach their own guns, some love it, some hate it

My 357 Rossi functions fine with 38 special rds. Never tried a 357. Seems pretty stout though.

I've owned four Taurus handguns. PT111, PT145, 605 and 94. All were bought used except the 94. All worked flawlessly except the 94. The 94 was a lemon out of the box. In short, a DOA. Cycled fine the day I purchased it. After the 10 day wait I picked it up and brought it home. Manually cycled it again then the internal mechanism locked up. Would not clear. Never even got a shot fired. Brought it back to the LGS to explain what just happened. Luckily they took the revolver back and gave me store credit towards another purchase. Used the store credit to buy a Ruger MKIII instead but had to pay for DROS fee's again. No big deal since I was able to return a firearm with no hassle.

Taurus quality control is lacking. Especially on the model 94. Just do a search on it and you will know.

Had 100% positive experiences with the PT111, PT145 and 605 though. Great reliable guns for the price value.

ive heard too many taurus hit or miss stories for me to start hunting one down, although if a good deal presented itself such as this (if you can get around 550-575) i wouldnt just walk away. my father in law has a taurus 357 which he loves and never had an issue with.

all in all im a ruger fan til the end and just traded my beloved MVP for an immacculate and barely used ruger sp101 3 inch 357 with 500 rounds of ammo and brand new dies no transfer or paperwork fees and 100 bucks from a friend. now i need a new hunting rifle but i had to have it lol. deals can be had, check out the taurus if you wind up getting it and dont like it, sell it and get a ruger and youll have ammo and dies to spare.
