    1911 must hve mods

I'm picking my Springfield loaded 1911 next Tuesday. What are the must have mods as this is going to be a range/target gun. That are not to expensive.

Lots of mags and ammo. Shoot it a lot first and then see what YOU think you need.

If YOU don't like the trigger pull, get a trigger job done.
If YOU don't like the sights, upgrade them. Fiber optics are great for shooting outdoors.
If YOU want to reload faster, put a magwell on it.
If YOU don't like the grips, upgrade to VZ Operator IIs or any of the other million options
If YOU can't reach the mag release button with out shifting your grip, put a longer one in.

Its your gun, so see what needs to be changed to make it easier and more enjoyable for you to shoot.

I got a EGW sear, which reduced my trigger to around 3 pounds. If you have a metal mainspring housing, good to go, but if plastic, get a nice Ed Brown or something. From there, judge based on your feel. I replaced my trigger since I didn't like the sharp vertical lines. I also got a 6" Nowlin barrel, but that isn't necessary at all.

A Loaded does not need any mods or upgrades, in fact in includes most of the upgrades that people used to pay hundreds of dollars to a smith to perform. On the other hand cal3gunner"s advice is excellent:

For my use the stock night-sights are fine but I like a crisp 4.5-5lb trigger on a defensive handgun. My fingers are short so I tend to swap in a shorter trigger and Esmeralda's slim grips to improve the fit to my hand. However I'm not of fan of extended mag releases because you could wind up losing your mag at a bad time (like in a fight). The bottom line is that you have a pretty nice pistol and for now I'd limit changes those required to make it fit your hand and cosmetics like replacing the grips.

            cal3gunner summed it up.

Shoot it first and then find out. That's the cold hard truth to it.

There are SO many that can be upgraded and it's mostly preference. Good luck and enjoy!

cal3gunner said it the best. Personally, I just don't understand people who want to slap mods on a gun before they actually shoot it. That's like people who salt their fries before they taste them.

And a plastic MSH works just fine! My Kimber has one and after 11,000 rounds it still hasn't broken. I don't know why people make such a huge deal about them not being steel on some guns.

If I'm the one with a SA Loaded the only thing I would get is an extend slide release. It makes it so much easier to release the slide compared to the standard one.

It's not a big deal, it's just an answer to his question. I don't buy a metal gun to have plastic parts.

                          Mags ammo range time.
Then YOU find out what you want changed.
Just about every one of my guns is stock.
They work. I don't have issues with them and just enjoy using them. YMMV

Just a suggestion - for EASY mod

before you start doing trigger jobs (ie: reducing pull) -

Polish the trigger and surrounding area - - - it COULD make the feel of the trigger much different, no extra little "umpf" to overcome a burr or rough spot
