    No more Rossi

So I was going to pick up a cheap Rossi .38sp, and it looks like they have all fallen off the roster at this point. Anyone know if they are planning on coming back to Cali, or are they gone for good. Looks like the libs are winning this battle of the handguns by dropping things off piece by piece.

See Bersa. I don't know. There are experts here and I wish they would chime in.

A casual perusal of the guns removed from the roster showing 3 Rossi revolvers dropping off in 2013. They may have been models that Rossi no longer made, I didn't bother to research. Revolvers are not subject to the microstamping insanity so if Rossi believes there is a market in California they might try to step back in. This may be a decision of not having to battle against Taurus products, which if memory serves correctly, now owns Rossi.

They are still out there. I believe they are owned by taurus, and you can find those out there, but the rossi pistols had a better fit and finish for being a low end gun. Oh well, hopefully I can disregard the roster in a few years when I am up north.

Personally, as the former manager of several gun stores, I say be glad Rossi is no longer on the list---would not care to own one myself...

Save your $$$$$$ and buy a "good" firearm. Cheap is expensive.

Either of you guys care to elaborate. I'm no stranger to a quality firearm and have handguns from Ruger to Python to full house custom 1911's. I have a good spectrum of cheap to 4k guns, and wonder why you guys are knocking them. Oneaudiopro, I KNOW if you are into audio like your username leads me to believe you know there are great quality audio products that inexpensive too. Not everything has to be Martin Logan, there has got to be some Sony products in there too for the everyday consumer. What are your thoughts?

I had one I just sold (wife's gun and I'm not much of a revolver guy) but the fit and finish was really nice and functioned great, cylinder lock up was spot on. It wasn't a colt python but it also wasn't a Phoenix arms. Good inexpensive revolver IMO YMMV

I wasn't knocking them as much as I was trying to make a point that there better values out ther than most of the "south of the border" firearms manufactures.
I've been collecting guns for quite a few years and have had numerous experiences with the likes of Taurus, Llama, Rossi, Star, and the rest, and have never had a good experience with any of them. The fit/finish is lacking, visible and rough maching marks, and lastly, usually unreliable.
My brother has one of each. The taurus after firing 2 cylinders of .357, leaves 2 spent casings under the ejector so you had to push them out with a stick. The Rossi's cylinder wouldn't close after firing several rounds, and the Llama .45 had numerous feed problems.
More than just collecting, I might have to rely on a gun to save my life sometime, and having a "cheap" gun to fill that task is just not going to happen. I know, like many other products, There are going to be those that perform flawlessly and have never given the user any problems. That has not been the case in my personal experience.
I carried a Ruger SP-101 as my backup for several years and have literally fired thousands of .357 magnum rounds without even a hiccup. My personal preference has always been with U.S. and european manufacturers. I've even seen some issues with the japanese "miruko" (sp) made Brownings.
So even though you can have an issue with any firearm, you're probably going to be less likely to have an issue if you stay away from the cheap imports. Better to save a little more and buy a better value in a used gun than to buy a cheap one and regret it later. Better quality guns also hold their value much better, and in alot of cases, become good investments as well.
As for my take on audio equipment, we can save that topic for another day. Lets just say that I've never in the past, nor in the future, will ever own a Sony amp.

First, Rossi seems to have spent most of their money making them look look good, polishing, etc. But the quality of the metal is suspect in my opinion. It seems to go something like this: "The Rossi is a great gun for the money." I say fine, "Let's take it out shooting next time." And the answer is: "Sure, as soon as I get the broken firing-pin fixed..."
During my time (many years) as a gun store manager, I found Rossi revolvers to be far more prone to parts breakage than the more expensive S&Ws, Rugers, and Colts (when they were in production). I know Taurus revolvers are MUCH improved from their early days---but again, personally, I would prefer not to own any based on my past experiences.
I would much rather have a few GOOD guns than a bunch of marginal firearms---I mostly plan to keep my guns for the long haul, but I find that good guns are a great investment---cheap-arse guns lose value fast---but like they say, you pays your money and take your pick...
The above is my personal opinion---your mileage may vary...
