    CZ SP-01 mod questions

Im thinking I want to get some work done on a sp-01 and I know quite a few of you folks out there have some nice cz's that have had some customization done, so here's what I'm looking for:

Still want a reliable side arm that's good for range work and nightstand duty.
I'm curious what the quality difference is between a da/sa and SAO trigger job, which is better in your opinion(I know its subjective).

What is your take on polishing the stock components vs switching out for new hammer, trigger, firing pin block ect.

Other worthwhile modifications like grips sights springs and what not.

Thanks for your take on this

This is my personal look at it.

    I prefer Da/sa.

I would swap the hammer spring, FPB spring and FP spring with something only slightly lighter. I'm a fan of CGWs parts, and would use one of his 'duty' cut hammers. I have the target cut hammer on my sp01 tactical and its a little to light for me.

Personall, i find the stock Sp01 grips perfect.

Oh, and swaping hammer and sear still requires some polish work on the trigger bar. and bottom of the sear cage.

SAO gives you the opportunity to make the triggerpull that mush better.
One of the major parts of that is shortening the reset, which requires reworking or removing the firing pin blocker (the trigger bow needs to clear that lever on reset).

The DA/SA triggerjob can be almost as good, but the reset won't have an undertravel adjustment. To get the overtravel adjustment (important) you'll need to run a SAO trigger, 85C trigger, or drill and tap the current trigger for a set screw. If you are paying a smith, his time will cost more to rework your parts than replace them.

You can't get much by just cleaning up/polishing the parts in there now, the hammer hook angle will cause camming action in the hammer. You CAN remove all the gritty feeling, and make it better, but it's only maybe 25% of a full triggerjob.

I can get the factory parts to a respectable 3.5# SA pull with a clean break, but if you are used to 1911's with awesome triggers, you'll need a new hammer to get there, and a SAO trigger with over and undertravel screws, and lighter springs, and clean up work, and remove or modify the firing pin blocker.

You don;t just swap a hammer, you will need to fit the safety to the sear, which often means starting with a new sear.

Talk to Dave at CGW and he can pretty much tailor the SP01 to your needs. I have a 97B there now getting some massaging.

My SP01 is my only CZ that hasn't been worked on. My other 3 have. Over time the SP-01 just got more enjoyable to shoot in stock trim.

I got my SP-01 today and this whole time I was worried that I'd need to get a trigger job. Mine isn't gritty and the ONLY complaint I have is the DA pull being heavy. I ordered a lighter spring for this, but honestly, I always rack the slide anyway to put it into SA when I shoot. I don't even mind the creep. The more I shoot it, the more I love this thing. The gun feels awesome to hold.

You should really master the first double action trigger pull.

The biggest improvement that I found was from installing the CGW Race Hammer.

da on it doesn't matter since it can be carried cocked and locked and you are not going to load it and decoct it but put a safety on instead. so I have never shot any of my CZs in double action. put a straight single action trigger on, a great hammer and find grips you like. then spend the rest of the money on ammo and master that gun cause it is a tank and gonna last you a lifetime

Stupid question coming your way, but how do I do the DA pull? When I load the mag and rack the slide, the hammer is already cocked back for SA. I'd have to drop the hammer right? I was practicing this with no rounds loaded and I could see an accidental slip waiting to happen.

Lower the hammer manually by pressing the trigger. I practice DA pulls when I shoot even though I don't ever manually lower the hammer when I put it back in my bedside table. A word of caution though, use both hands to manually lower the hammer if you have a live round in the chamber - one hand pressing the trigger, the other hand manipulating the movement of the hammer.

You must have not felt a properly worked over CZ with a SAO trigger then haha. My shadow has a better trigger than my TRP, no doubt about it.

The race hammer will improve the DA pull a little bit as well. But if you have a decocker then your stuck with DA/SA and with practice you'll master that DA first pull of the trigger.

However, if your gun has a safety (no decocker), as someone already suggested, you can replace the trigger with a SA only trigger. CZ makes a sexy straight trigger that replaces the SA/DA trigger on their standard non-decocker guns. Combine that trigger with the CGW race hammer and you have the ultimate CZ75!

Ignorance is bliss and saves money If I did feel a worked CZ, I'd probably go broke.

I have put around 700 in parts and 900 in labor into my tactical sport over the years and can't wait for it to be finished. I get it back next week and don't regret it at all.
