I was under the impression that the MK23 was discontinued. But I still see it showcased in Civilian section of HK-USA's?

Further clarification is in order.

The HK Mk23 is an assault weapon by California definition as shipped since it has a threaded barrel.

SSE just bypasses the Roster, but is a separate matter from AW issues.

The gun either needs to be shipped into CA with barrel removed, or barrel changed to unthreaded or spare unthreaded bbl with it.

THE GUN CANNOT CROSS INTO CALIFORNIA TO A REGULAR CA FFL AS-IS, unlike a simple non-Rostered handgun.

Threaded barrels are too evil to own in CA... The kicker is that I think you can own a threaded barrel, but you're never allowed to instal it into a firearm because that's where the legality of it is compromised.

Have you ever handled a MK23? They are huge! Even bigger than the full size USP's. Don't get me wrong, I do like them and would love to have one some day, but they are definitley best for someone with big mitts . . in my opinion.

As others have said, your best option would be to buy a non-threaded barrel and have it installed before it ships to CA. You could have the threaded barrel shipped directly to you. The other option of course would be to tack weld a thread protector onto the original barrel .. but that would decrease the collector value of the original . . and you could not ever remove the barrel from the slide after that for cleaning. Good luck whichever way you go . . I hope you can get one.

My LGS in AZ has two of them (threaded barrels) and they are $2400.00. I don't know how much another barrel would cost.

The grip is no different than the USP .45 grip so you don't need big hands to use it. Think of it as a "stretched" USP .45 like a USP Expert or Elite.

Here is a link to a thread on HKPro forum where the size differences are discussed. The circumference of MK23 grip is larger by a little. That, coupled with the greater length and weight, makes it feel less ergonomic to some.
