That was a relatively standard round for a bush gun/guide gun when my parents lived up in Alaska. It would stop anything you may run in to up there, as long as you could hit it.

While there have been reports of brown bears's being killed by birdshot (Incident in 2011, 2 duck hunters attacked by brown bear in Alaska) there's another story I heard from a Park Ranger was about a hunter who killed a brown bear with a single shot of birdshot and got extremely lucky. Apparently one of the pellets penetrated just enough to make it into a blood vessel and the shot circulated till it hit a constriction, caused a blockage, and dropped the bear due to a heart attack. Unfortunately for the hunter the bear was charging him at the time and it collapsed on top of him when it died.

Whether or not that story's true... you probably want to use something other than birdshot when defending yourself from bears.

I want to see video of a charging Brown bear or Polar Bear being repelled by Bear spray. The charging bear travels at 25 miles per hour that is about 37.5 feet persecond. What is the range of the spray?

I want to see this stuff in action for myself not some Federal employee telling me it is effective.

Have any of you seen Bear spray in an actual attack? I am not talking about stopping a Black Bear from eating garbage but stopping an attack.
