    Python price check

What should I pay for a decent used 4" or 6" Python in stainless? I've been watching gunbroker and I have seen the blued models going in the $600-800 range but haven't seen too many stainless other than NIB and safe queens. Those are going for $1500 and up and I don't want to pay that.

And yes, I am aware that most Pythons are not on the CA approved list.

I've seen a 6" blued Python sell for your above mentioned price range. It was on consignment at Irvington Arms.

It didn't last long: consigned on Saturday, sold on Tuesday.

      approved?

If you want a new python they still come out of the Colt custom shop, i'm not sure what your talking about in relation to the Ca.. list. most were produced quite sometime ago,I had no problem procuring one. What is it something like no blued S&W's. The price is right on, you will never find a more smooth double action anywhere near that price, not without going custom. Buy one you won't regret it.

They don't come out of the custom shop any longer. As for the comment about the DOJ list, you can't get a python from a dealer anywhere in the U.S. because it is no longer on the drop test list. The only one still on that list is the Python Elite. Good luck finding those.

Too bad we have to deal with the list. There are so many good Colt and S&W revolvers out there that we can't get our hands on. They're also at extremely great prices. *sigh*

Grab one while you can... Python prices are going up, much like earlier Colts have in the past several years. Stainless would be about $750-$900 in 95% condition. Minty ones probably $1100-$1200 tops. Blued ones are more desirable and sell for more. Early minty blued, pre-prefix in the box, $1500+. Of course, a lot of people will ask for more, because you just can't get them, and they're worth whatever someone is willing to pay for one.

I have an early blued Python- it needs a new coat of blue, but otherwise works fine. It is IMO the best looking revolver ever made, but my S&W's have a far better trigger and the timing is less touchy on the Smiths.

When I just want to stare, I pull out the Python

If you want to get it back to a nice Royal, send it back to Colt and get it redone. Check this post out from someone who did just that.

I bought it. I was sick and justneeded to get out of the house. I hit it over to Irvington Arms and worked out a good deal for it. I pick it up on Saturday.

                  $650. Made in 1981.

The cheapest Python I have seen in the last year was $950 for a 2.5" deal

                        S&W vs. Colt

The timing on the Smiths is not as touchy I will agree with that, you shouldn't have to deal with that unless your totally disassembling the gun. No way that a Smith's trigger is better than a Python unless you totally re-work it, out of the box the Python trigger is as good as it gets, hands down. I don't pull my Python out to stare at it, all my guns are used. I have put a couple of thousand rounds through mine without a problem. It's the .270 v 30 06 arguement. They are both effective.
