Sig Gunsmith Needed Please

Hello

I got my Sig P229 9mm a few months ago and shot about 1300-1500 rounds through with various ammo from 115-147grn (all factory ammo). Today I took it to the range to test my HD ammo which was Federal HST. I also tested other HP/FMJ ammo as well.

1st Problem is now confirmed that I have FTE issues. I had 5 FTEs on the HST ammo but in the past I have had FTE issues with all types of FMJ ammo. Its very random because Ive shot 200-300 rounds at once with no issues. But I did have a friend test it and he had the FTE on the HST ammo and some FMJ ammo.

2nd Problem is I live in CA and this is a off-roster gun that was SSE. I cant send it back to Sig since they wont repair Non-CA guns.

Can anyone recommend some CA based (Im in Socal but I can ship it) Sig Certified Gunsmiths or even out of state that will repair and send it back?

I thought it was me because Im a new gun owner but my friend is not and all his guns fired flawlessly with the same ammo.

Please help so I can shoot my P229 with no problems!

Check your ejector for carbon fouling. Shouldn't have a problem with so few round fired but who knows.

Probably one of the most respected gunsmiths in the Sig community is Bruce Gray of grayguns. His shop is out of state, so there would be shipping. But this seems most likely to be an extractor issue (they sometimes come from the factory with the tension wrong). That's a pretty easy fix, and the expense of shipping your gun seems too much for that small of an issue if there is a local guy. On the other hand, if your interested in having your action smoothed out, you could have Bruce do both (though I personally think sub-2000 rounds is too early to be bothering with an action package).

OP, you need to let us know where you are located. I am pretty sure there are local SIG certified armorer that can take a look at your gun.

As for FTE, is it failure to extract or eject? Those are two different symptoms. Give us better description of what happen would help.

The actual model of the P229 would help too. You mention SSE so I assume it would have the new style slide with long extractor instead of the old P229 short extractor. Please let us know what you have.

Im in LA. The issue Im having is once the round is fired, the case is still in the barrel and the following round is pushed up against it. I assume this is failure to extract?

The model I own is E29R-9-BSS with long extractor (mfr date was June 2013)

I would check if there is carbon built-up on the extractor, and would also clean the barrel and see if there are burr or other imperfection on the chamber. Last would be checking extractor tension.

Had similar issue with my P228 before. Replace the extractor, problem goes away.

Wait, since it's only the extractor problem,can you just send in the slide?

I had the exact same thing happen to my sig p226. Casing would be left in the barrel while another round would try to feed. I sent it to sig and replace the extractor spring. Works flawlessly now.

You can buy the parts and replace it yourself for less than the cost of shipping

Hal at HP custom is a great guy, met him at an FTA class last year. I don't own a sig but he worked on my AR, honest and great service.

Try the cheaper alternative first as suggested. Then send it out if needed. An extractor spring swap is a couple dollars for the part and a youtube video away. Who knows...it may fix your issues. Just my $.02
