Les Baer Thunder Ranch 1911 - range trip

Changed out the old recoil spring to a 16lb Wolff and the gun shoots so smooth. You can see in the video below that it recoils more like a 9mm.

Around 3000 rounds total through the gun.

Other than Ed Brown allen grip screws (which I'm looking to swap for 10-8 grip screws) and VZ Double Diamond grips, the gun is stock.

I'm debating whether to keep the worn/GI look or send it off to Alchemy for Cerakote, flat trigger, and flattened and serrated top.

Ran about 40-50 rounds of Freedom Munitions 230 grain ammo to smooth in the new spring today.

    Regardless, it's a shooter!

Very nice, my next firearm is going to be a 1911. I wish I could justify getting a Les Baer

Great shooting. Was this at Firing Line in Burbank? Looks familiar.

How do you like the stock slim grips (assuming you have them)?

Thanks! This was only at 7 yards. I usually shoot at just 7-10, might stretch it out one of these days.

I actually sold the stock slim grips for the VZ Double Diamonds. They were just too thin for my hands (I have medium hands). Also swapped out the thin bushings for standard bushings.

This is at Targetmasters West in Milpitas CA (norcal). Got there in the morning right as they opened and it was still really crowded.

            Nice piece

I wouldn't cerakote it, I like the look of a worn blued pistol

I give you mad props if you turn out to be right on this. Every indoor range I've ever been in has a wall that looks like that.

Definitely don't cerakote it! Flat triggers are nice and if you like the flat top serrated slide then go for it, but Les Baer's thin bluing is great for turning out that sexy worn blued look.

I had a custom .45 1911 made one time. Before taking it to the range I too changed the recoil spring, but I didn't stop there. I refinished the gun, put on different sights, re-worked the trigger, changed the barrel, and converted it to a 9x23mm.

did you replace the firing pin spring as well?
have you tried a 18.5 recoil spring? this might help reduce the recoil with the ammo your were using.

                              And nice shooting groups.
