First Hand Gun 2 questions

I bought a Brand new Beretta M9 yesterday and I was loading rounds into the magazine, and the question I have...

1. Is it normal for a new magazine to be tough to load? It is a 15 round magazine and I can manage around 10 bullets but from there it becomes extremely difficult should I force in the rest or wait until I shoot it a few times?

Yes it is my first gun, I have gone shooting many times but this is my first gun.

Question 2. I don't mean to sound too ignorant but, is it okay to shoot it right away or clean it first?

First off, you're going to get a lot of flack for using the term "clip." Around these parts we call them magazines.

Yeah, with new pistols the magazine springs can be a bit stiff therefore making it difficult to load a full magazine. Try leaving a full magazine overnight so the springs loosen a bit

In California you're limited to 10 round magazines. So unless you're exempt you can't possess anything greater than 10. My assumption is that you're trying to fit 15 rounds into a 10 round limited mag.

Yes, clean it and lube it before shooting.

Sorry, I live in North Carolina but I lived in California for 30 years, before moving to N.C.
I do actually have a 15 round magazine.
There are very few exemptions in N.C. It took me a grand total of 30 minutes to get permit and purchase hand gun and bring it home.
Yes I don't know the terminology yet but I will soon get it down.

If you bought the gun yesterday and your in California then the magazine only will load "around ten" or less rounds. If you went and bought a rebuild kit for a standard capacity magazine and put it together and can only load ten you may have an issue with the function of your mag. That and you might be a troll because in this great state that would constitute a felony. But hey I don't want to assume to much, I mean if you bought the gun yesterday and are loading standard capacity mags today maybe your a LEO, kinda odd you dont know much about guns in your line of work but hey I don't know much about the keyboard I use at work either. So here's to giving you the benefit of a doubt.

Excessive grease and oil in the action is not great and could affect the proper functioning of the action, too much grease and oil in the barrel while shooting may cause the firearm to fail and turn your face into troll pie.

no not a troll, not breaking any laws I am in North Carolina at least. It is different down here, not to often in California I saw people walking into Wal Marts with hand guns on their hips. It is legal once you get your concealed weapon lic. you can go just about anywhere you want with one

I might suggest also disassemble, clean and lube the magazines. It is not uncommon for them to need this, new out of the box, in my experience. Enjoy your new weapon!!

Yes, new magazine are generally difficult to load.
Usually the last round, the maximum 10th (blocked magazine) or in your case should be the last few and maximum 15th.

Yes, it is normal for it to get stiffer as a as you are loading the last few rounds in your case 13, 14, 15...you are going against a very compressed spring tension.
A few dozen time loading/unloading at the range should loosen up the spring tension.

A Maglula UpLula magazine loader help much.

Should be clean enough from factory, but at least oil it before use.

I was amazed at how quick it all went down. I really expected to wait 10 days when I went in yesterday, next thing I knew I walked out with gun in hand (or in plastic case).

Mag question: not unusual for a brand new mag. If you can get an Uplula, that will help a lot! In time, the springs will not be as stiff and loading by hand will be easier (unless you don't want to stop using the Uplula).

Cleaning question: yes, I will recommend to clean before use unless specified in the manual not to do it. Les Baer, for instance, recommends to shoot around 500 rds before first cleaning.

As stated before, new magazines will be harder to load. My Glock 19 magazines are easier to load now, but I still need the loading tool to get my 9th and 10th rounds in.

I also have 2 Glock 17 magazines that are way harder than my 19s for some reason. However, I don't load more than 8 into my magazines as I don't want to wear the spring too much, but this may just be paranoia on my part.

As for cleaning, I didn't clean my Glock before shooting it and have had no problems. I clean it after every range trip since I go through 200-300 rounds. I'll be cleaning my CZ after I pick it up next week before shooting though. It just depends on the gun and recommendations.

Well obviously that's because us berserk Californians cannot be trusted not to immediately take that gun and start shooting up children. Our government is only trying to protect us.

I'm an original Arizonian and remember we never waited either. These poor folks in Commiefornia forget how nice it was before legislation. Not everyone has to deal with controlling government like we do. Good luck in Carolina, oh and yes, clean your handgun before you use it and follow manufacturer break in on the barrel.

yea but many in this state believe the Civil War is still going. So California might be strict but at least they are smart and aware that one bad apple ruins it for all.
I am not joking when I say you really are not a resident unless you own a small armory of guns, knives, cross bows, swords, whips, a few boats and at least 5 ATV's. All while living in a trailer...with 1000 acres of land

First, if you are coming back to California, I hope there is a compelling reason. You'll have to leave that 15 round mag behind.

Clean a gun before shooting first time - Always
The lube that is put on the gun as it leaves the factory is there for protection against corrosion, not necessarily meant for a long shooting session. By taking it down for a field strip you can familiarize yourself with the components, examine the firearm for burrs, cracks etc. and you can note where lubrication was put on the gun. Not that the last item is the perfect guide of where to lubricate but it is a guideline. I always load up with snap caps and dry fire a lot before I take the gun to the range for the first time. Cheaper to break in the trigger and you get a feel of the controls (slide lock, safeties if they are there, trigger pull and break etc).

Get an uplula magazine loader, no sense in trashing your thumb. I couldn't get the 10th round into my XD magazine until I used the loader. The other day I was loading up a magazine with snap caps on a new gun without the loader and split the nail on my thumb. I broke out the uplula real quick after that.

You say 30 minutes to get your permit and purchase the gun, and you are thinking of coming back to California? She better be worth it.
