It's a bit off topic, but I'm planning on going to the range and renting these 3 guns in 9mm and .45 but they only have the M&Ps in sub-compacts.

Will shooting the sub-compact version give me some sort of measure of comparison, or will they be so far off that it's not worth my time?

I really like how the M&P feels in my hand, but I don't know which one I'll prefer shooting yet.

I can only tell how I felt.

I have both compact and the full size in 40S&W. Other than the grip being shorter, there is not much difference in feel. M&P Compact is, as the name suggests, is not a sub-compact at all. Compared to Glock, it's more like shooting a Glock 17 then shooting a Glock 19 with a shorter grip than shooting a Glock 26.

If you live near Burbank, the Firing Line range there had an M&P full size. I can't remember if it was the updated one, but it feels pretty close to the updated one I fired this year. That's if they still have the same one.

Ah ok, my mistake. I must have misheard the guy over the phone.

It sounds like it will be close enough for me to get an idea of which I would prefer. I live up in the Bay Area, so Burbank is a bit far away for me. Thanks for your help though, I appreciate it.

If you like the sub-compact, then I'm willing to bet that you'll like the full size version even more. I find the full size M&P is much easier to shoot due to less recoil and longer sight radius.
