    Figuring Things Out

This is a case of "just wanting to be sure".
The wife and I went shooting today and I took my Sig 1911 Scorpion and eight different types of ammo with me.

    WWB 230 gr FMJ
    Privi Partizan 230 gr FMJ
Federal American Eagle 230 gr FMJ
Speer Gold Dot 200 gr JHP
Barnes Tac XPD 185 gr JHP
    Hornady Critical Defense 185 gr
    Winchester PDX-1 230 gr JHP
    Remington UMC 230 gr JHP

I had the wife randomly number the ammo on a spreadsheet and she loaded the magazines with five rounds each.
To ensure I remained as unbiased as possible, I made sure I didn't look at them as I loaded the mags into the gun.
Each five shot group was fired from 20 yards using a standard two-handed Weaver, with no more than two seconds between shots.

    Here's the results:

I fired a total of 50 rounds each after the "accuracy" part of the test, and jotted down a few notes:

Barnes Tac XPD was the softest shooting, with the least muzzle flash.
Speer Gold Dot had the harshest/sharpest recoil, with the most muzzle flash.
Winchester (White Box) had 3 x FTF's in only 50 rounds.

To some, it may seem a bit anal, but based upon my less-than-scientific results, I have no reservations about on carrying the Barnes Tac XPD and depending on it with my life.

Thanks. Slow fire and a precise trigger definitely helped.

I really don't understand why people hate solid copper bullets so much. I've used the Barnes bullets in my hunting rifles for years with great results. I also use a double tap load with the 155 grain tac xp for my 10mm. The results on small to medium game has been amazing. Having seen what they do to living tissue and bone I would have no problem using them for self defense.

There's a lot of hunters that are pissed because of the lead ammo ban that just got signed. Many of these people think that lead bullets work significantly better than their lead free counterparts.

I don't think that most of us are pissed because lead bullets work better. I would say most of us are pissed because they cost 2-3x as much.

That's some great shooting. I keep hearing issues with Winchester white boxes... guess I'll avoid those. Paying for 50 rounds and only getting 47 clean kinda sucks.

For the same price as the WWB, I'll stick with the PPU for shooting paper.
