    SR40c not working

I was hoping I would get a good pistol. I have a SR9C, SR22. Guess I was pushing my luck. Picked up the .40 two days ago. Took to the range today. Shot about 60 rounds of Winchester white box 165 gr. shoots good. Pretty accurate. Nice trigger ( removed the mag disconnect first thing). Then I inserted a loaded mag and racked the slide......uh oh. Slide would not move forward. Tried the other mag. Same. Hit the slide release and it chambered a round. Fired one shot and slide stuck back. Mmm......changed to other mag and same thing.

Called Ruger and they seemed to know exactly what it was. Some small spring in the frame. Sent me a liable. Boxed up and ready to return next week. This will be a CCW, so it better be reliable. We shall see. They told me 10-14 days for warranty.
Last year it was a RIA Tactical failure. It came back better that new.

I think I know what happened. It's pretty easy to lose the one I am thinking about when disassembling the slide to remove the magazine disconnect.

The point is, it doesn't exactly (sound from your description) like Ruger made a bad gun. Rather it sounds like you made a small mistake in reassembly.

If you can tell me which "small spring", I can probably tell you for sure.

According to others, it is the slide lock spring. On the Ruger forum, it seems to be an issue that is not isolated. It's in the frame towards the top front of the frame in the trigger section.

Sorry to hear about your SR40. Hope they fix the problem.

That does sound like a quality-check issue. Thankfully, Ruger is pretty good about fixing warranty issues quickly. I'm looking forward to your final report.

Update: Received my .40 back today around 2:00pm. That's 4 days from when I sent it back and it was retirned to me. Unbelievable turnaround time! Way to go Ruger. Letter stated they replaced the slide stop assembly. They also stated they fired 40 rounds whithot a failure. That means the spring and the finger that it attaches to. Inserted one round in a magazine and was able to rack the slide to chamber a round. So far the problem seems fixed.
Will take to range and put 100 rounds through it. I think I will fire at least 200 rounds before using as CCW.

I had to send my new SR40c to Ruger. Had an issue where I was getting a LOT of light strikes, and then the gun locked back after most shots. Ruger had it back to me in about 7 days and the gun has been perfect ever since. I like the SR40c so much I bought a second one.

I maimed my barrel in my sr9c clearing a squib round(entirely my own fault all the way around). Ruger wouldn't sell me a new barrel, I had to send it back, and they replaced it free.

Service so good I feel guilty. I wish they'd have taken my money.
