My point of view is I know nothing, I know I know nothing, and that makes me uncomfortable. The best way to learn is from those who have been there and done that. Bill certainly meets that description.

I was impressed with the opportunity to go from zero to .44 mag in three days. Now I have some decisions to make.
The Ruger Mark II 512 was my first pistol, and still one of my favorites. It has also turned into my wife's favorite; accurate, low recoil and sound level, and lower cost to shoot than center fire. Love my Sigs and have a Baer 1911 on order, but will always have a place for my Mk II.

Congrats! I remember swiping my range V-card.

Now you need a g19 and some good sight.

If you head down the rifle path .. my thought ... get a Ruger 10 - 22. Shoots that 22. LR or the Marlin 60 22.

Then get piece of history at the local big 5 or somewhere that sales Moisn's... cheap ... ammo is cheap ... a bit of cleaning but stupid fun...

        BUT BEFORE

        research ... research ... research ...

Congrats. You're doing it right. Welcome to an addiction.

As for your first purchase they out a lot and buy what feels best. I'd recommend something in 9mm simply because it's cheaper to shoot. And it's plenty effective for PD/HD. And availability is still pretty good.

Pretty soon you'll always be thinking about the next one.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

Good decision on taking Bill's class. Like you, before I even started thinking about buying a firearm, I wanted to take a basics class first. I took Bill's class at the Livermore Rod and GUn Club instead of Reed's because it would just be a one day class. It was very informative and made me more comfortable handling a firearm after all was said and done. I also took his Home Defense course and would recommend that to you as well after you've purchased your first firearm.
