RIA 1911 38 Super to 9mm conversion question

I pickup my RIA 38 Super on the 23rd. So here is the question which 9mm Barrel would you order?

The one from Sarco described as a "Roto" barrel OR the 9mm Bbl from Armscor/RIA. I was leaning toward the RIA barrel thinking fitting should be easier plus it's a little cheaper than the barrel from Sarco.

I'd get the one your gunsmith recommends, unless you're going to fit it yourself.

Just save up and buy a 9mm 1911.
      1A - 2A= -1A :(

How much is the Armscor barrel?

I think you need a ramped barrel like the .38 super.

That barrel works wonderfully for me. No fitting was required, I just bought a set of Wilson links/pins and some Metalform 9mm magazines. Mine has been 100%.

Sometimes we luck out I guess, but I am certainly not alone in my positive experience with this conversion.

I bought the one from sarco and have been using the 38 super mags with no problems.

I went with the sarco barrel, the fitting was minimal(just needed to widen the connection point for the barrel link a bit, took about 20 minutes with a file and some fine sandpaper to get it right, then reblue)

                Yeah...not helpful or logical.

I'm guessing you don't know the small consequences of doing a swap. For one, the extractor will get different wear extracting 9mm casings as opposed to 38 super casings. So when switching calibers back and forth, the OP may run into issues there.

Also, the springs may not work well with the lighter loads of the 9mm/38 super cartridges and OP can have failures to eject or cycle properly.

These are a few reasons why I said he should just get a complete 9mm 1911. Do some research, rookie.

Thanks everyone for all the opinions and info. Sarco did mention changing the recoil spring to a 14lb one which they don't carry. Also looking at the Tokarev conversion kit from J&G.......maybe.

                      Your guessing wrong...

Springs and extractors are easy swaps even if changing them is not a required for this conversion.

No good reason not to convert an RIA if the OP is wanting to run some 9mm in his 1911.

As for "rookie"...why don't you tell me all about your safe full of 1911s and all the calibers you run in that platform baller...

RIA 1911 38 Super to 9mm conversion question

I used the Sarco 9MM barrel and as a previous poster said, fitting it was no problem.

For me, the .38 Super was more problematic because of feeding issues. I still need to finish polishing the feed ramp and tweaking the mags for reliable feeding with .38 Super.

Telling the OP to buy a completely new 1911 is asinine. He asked about barrels for a 38super to 9mm conversion. Not which 9mm 1911 he should buy...
