I need a good 1911 gunsmith to do a trigger job and some hand checkering on the front strap and could use some recommendations of who to go to so my gun doesn't get ruined. Thanks.

These days, Jim's good for Reliability Packages, which remain world class, but anything to do with aesthetics, I'd probably venture elsewhere. About 3 months ago, I brought him some sights to install, and it looked like he beat them in with a railroad spike.

Sadly, more and more people seem to be saying that about Hoag.

I have heard good things about King's Gun Works in Glendale and Dave's Metal Works in Covina. I have not used either.
Maybe someone else on CG can tell you if they still do good work.

Disappointed, but really, I couldn't bring myself to be upset with an 80 something year old guy. He's done decent work for me in the recent past, but at his age, you have to go in knowing his limitations.

Mechanical issues, don't hesitate to see Jim in person.
