Can I take the slide from one manufacturer and use in on the frame of another? Was cleaning my sig compact and slapped the slide onto the fullsize frame of my Remington and thought it looked good. Both are series 80. Just curious if that's a no-no or not?

Some will fit better than others. A Gold Cup slide has different dimensions. -

Not sure how SIG makes their compacts.
Measure the rail length, if they are the same, I do not see an issue.
.22lr conversions uppers are used all the time like that.
Government and Compact/Commander should have slightly different rail length.Comment

As long as the lugs fully seat, and the link is not stressed, there is no reason you cannot do the swap. I swap the slides on my Springfields quite often.

If it is milspec it should fit. Like they're saying it isn't ideal. You can get slide replacements like .22 conversions, and those sometimes have issues. That should be a nice indication of what would happen with another .45 slide.Comment

I can't speak for SIG's or Remington 1911's since I don't have those brands, but normally you have different frame machining in the pocket for the recoil spring guide to allow for more travel with "compact" length slides as well as shorter dust covers and shorter frame rails. The shorter slides models already give up some slide travel compared to a 5" Government model length slide assembly.
Personally I wouldn't bother playing Barbie dolls with my 1911's and would keep each pistol complete the way they were manufactured, fitted and intended. Or if you want a Commander dimensioned pistol buy a Commander."You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
