Well the last semi auto pistol I am going to buy is a Glock 19. I handled a Gen. 3 and it felt comfortable. I have the ability to purchase a Gen 4, but I am open to Gen 2 or 3 as I maybe able to purchase a used one. I was just looking for an overall consensus of each generation, quirks, must have aftermarket accessories, etc. I usually buy on impulse, so I thought a make the last one count and be informed. Thanks.

Any generation that you can get your hands on is g2g. If you think that the replaceable back strap is important and makes it really feel good then go with the gen4, as far aftermarket accessories the gen4 has been in the market long enough to have all the parts you need. Buying a gun is completely subjective I find that if someone likes something its nearly impossible to change their mind.
For me I bought the G19 Gen3 in OD because its less expensive, I like they way it feels no need for an interchangeable back straps for me, and the OD is simply because I like it. So I hope this help -
I find that the trigger on the full size models are a bit better. Shooting my g19 and g26 they are a bit different. I shot my buddies g17 and g32 and they feel a bit more smooth. Might just be me.Originally posted by beccibooWhy make it clear when there is an agency that can make up and enforce their own laws? Personally, I'd get which ever one is cheaper. There were some issues with the 19 Gen 4s, but those were addressed. People say aside from that, they shoot pretty much the same.
Lefties will prefer the Gen 4 though since the mag release is ambidextrous and as mentioned above, the back strap options are there if you need them.
I like my 19 Gen 3. It functions like a champ, not a single issue, and today I put the 1000th round through it

Get a 23 and a 9mm conversion barrel.
2 fully functional guns for $650. Can't beat that.Comment

I'm sorry to argue, but many people are still reporting issues with Gen 4's and even some of the newer Gen 3's. I myself have had BTF issues with a new Gen 4 G19.Any generation that you can get your hands on is g2g. I personally would avoid the 4th Gen, and check the extractor/ejector on a new Gen 3 before buying.

The only thing I have done to mine aftermarket-wise is a front night sight. Id maybe change out the rear sight for a 3-dot type setup. I dont particularly care for the stock glock put-the-ball-in-the-basket sights..
You don't need a grip plugComment

Arguing is welcome, there are reports on glockforum that the problem has been fixed with the glock that come equip with the latest parts, and if you ended up with the ones that don't have the latest parts you can send them to glock to have them fixed.Comment

If a Gen 3 feels good, get it. You can get them new all day long for $539. Used $500 or less.Comment

Prices have dropped. 519 at my local shop or 500 at Glock only retailers.
Late model Gen 3's have a lot of reprots of eratic ejection issues commonly called BTF (brass to face) mine included (test fire date 8/2013). About 10% of brass ejects to the left and towards my face. A number of "fixes" exist. The gen 4 ejector is very popular. The .40 cal extractor, Apex extractor and older non loaded chamber indicator components are also reported to help fix that issue. The number one reported fix is shotting hotter ammo than practice 115 grain rounds.
Mods I recommend are 3.5# connector and sights of your own preference although many purists will argue that the stock trigger is the best yada yada...
Personally I have the Ghost Edge kit and use the heavier striker spring of the two. It provides a smooth 4.5# pull with overtravel adjustment. After some use I also decided that the stock mag release was inconveniently too short so I opted for a Vickers/Tango Down mag release which is longer than the stock release, but shorter than the facotory extended release that seems like it's too long to me. Also, the G17 smooth trigger w/bar was also added and feels much nicer and is a straight drop-in part. I will advise that if you switch out triggers and want a Ghost connector with overtral built in, swap out the triggers first before you install the new connector. The tollerances with a diferent assembly may not let your pistol fire.
On a side note, I have installed the gen 4 ejector but haven't been to the range to see if it has corrected the ejection issuse just yet.Comment

People are trill reporting problems with the latest parts, myself included.
Glock blew it. Shouldn't have tried to fix something that isn't broken.

my preference is for the Gen 2 G19; for my liking, the grip is ergonomically superior to that of the Gen 3 and Gen 4. the Gen 2 G19 has no rail to accommodate the mounting of a light; keep that in mind if you consider the Gen 2 G19 for purchase.Comment
