    Ruger SR22 malfunction. Please help

Hi calguns I am experiencing problems with my new Ruger SR22 About every 10-15 round I get a failure to ejected or failure to feed. I have clean the gun with rem oil and left it lubed up and also tried running it very lightly lubed and still I have the problem. I have used several different types of bulk ammo and also CCI stinger and mini mags. With CCI ammo I tend to get less ftf and fte but I still get them. Also I notice that some rounds will expand in the chamber after I fire it and its a pain to get out I have to use pliers to remove the spent casing from the chamber. Any suggestions. Thanks for your help.

You can try using round nose 22lr's. Hollow point 22lr's can be iffy in semi-auto's

I sent mine back to the factory twice. The first time they said they replaced something totally unrelated to feeding/extracting. The seconed time they said nothing was wrong but it seemed to be fixed, kindof. For mine the Fedral bulk Champion 525 packs work best. Also the CCI Blazer bulk packs work well too. Not much luck with other ammo.

Thanks I will try using round nose instead of HP. But I still find it odd due the fact that my friend has the same model and it is nearly flawless. He has nearly 100% reliability using bulk and cci ammo. I have several Ruger guns and all have been great except for this one. If I send this to the Factory will I have trouble when it comes to shipping it back to cali?

I had something like that going on with mine as well the last time I had it out. The other day I was checking it out and took the slide off. The recoil spring was on backwards. There is a fat side and a skinny side, I had the skinny side facing out. I have not fired it yet to see if the problem has gone away but I'm thinking it has. The time before I had it out it ran perfect, brought it home cleaned it took it back out and problems.

Rimfires are notoiously unreliable, especially with HP. Ruger might be able to help and they are a great company to deal with.

You might want to try a different magazine if you only are using one or two magazines. Just as likely a bad magazine as the gun itself. ANOTHER THING: the magazines in the SR22 are staggered and it is quite easy to load an SR22 magazine without the bullets being lined-up/loaded correctly in the magazine. Triple check that the bullets are properly loaded right before loading each magazine.

isnt that gun taken off california roster since it was discovered to have a safety issue?

Mine was excellent while I had it too. It had some trouble eating hollow points, especially ones with a large HP cavity diameter, but for the most part I had little issues. CCI minimags and Stingers were probably its favorite diet..
Federal red box copper plated HP bricks and Blazer lead round nose ammo was great as well.

The stuck casing issue is extremely bizarre. It would be a first for me in a rimfire gun..

Definitely check the recoil spring for proper direction,
also just give it one last gooood once over for any out of whack parts or damage.

No it was removed secondary to ruger improving it.

I'll keep an eye on this thread in case mine starts to have issues. So far we've (mostly my girlfriend, it's her favorite pistol to shoot) have put close to 2K rounds through it. I would guess we have had less than a dozen FTF/FTE issues. They were all while shooting ammo from a Federal 525 bulk pack. Everything else has ran great.

It almost sounds like the rounds may not be getting fully seated into the chamber before being struck..?

The first time I took my SR22 to the range I was using CCI HP, it failed to load because the HP got stock on the ramp..might be just a freak accident bec. it only happened 1 time..now it eats whatever I feed it..HP or rounded, CCI, Rem, win or fed...Hungry little bastard...

that is very bizarre for an SR22 as they are workhorses. they do like to be run a little more on the wet side. can expanding casings be the fault of the weapon - idk but i would have a tendency to pin that on the ammo and not the gun. every SR22 i have encountered ate anything, including standard velocity and hp. Ruger generally has a very fast turnaround (week) and their customer service is awesome. (but definitely check the direction of the recoil spring 1st.)
