    Hi-Power

I have a question. I have a MkIII Hi power that I have had for years. Many rounds shot thru it. The lug under the barrel has cracked. I'am torn between sending it back to Browning for new barrel or sending it to Bar-Sto for one of theirs. What do you think? I have already talked to Browning and they gave me the impression that it might not be covered and I would have to purchase a new barrel.

I thought gun companies basically cover all their guns for life

Are you absolutely sure that it is cracked?
THe Browning Hipower uses a 2 piece construction barrel and will have a seam on it. This seam is often mistaken for a crack.

they do, but not for free.

if that were the case, I would always buy used and then send them back to the company for refitting.

I would purchase an after market barrel from KKM as getting anything from Barsto is a long wait and spotty at best. Then get it fitted to your gun by a Hi-Power specialist. Local is best, but if you are planning to ship the gun to Browning, you may has well send it to a gunsmith that specializing in the gun.

I think Dave Lauber @ Dave's Metalworks works on Hi-powers. Don Williams in Tempe is known for his excellent work. Good luck!

I would take it to a good gunsmith and get his opinion.
