    DA/SA in .40. Rust-resistant suggestions?

I'm generally a "glock guy" not only for their striker-fire design and legendary reliability (mine have 1000s of issue-free rounds down range) but b/c of their seemingly supernatural ability to resist rust. This is a hugely important feature to me as I live right on the shoreline where the marine layer is thick and constant. But lately I've been craving some variety and want a DA/SA in .40.

I was all set to pick up either a USP compact or P2000, but I keep reading about rust issues with these pistols. Ditto for Sigs, which were also on my list.

Has anyone who lives in similar environs owned any of these pistols for any period of time with or without rust issues? Is there another DA/SA known for rust resistance that I should consider? Or should I just forget DA/SA altogether and pick up another gen 3 glock, which have maintained beautifully in the 4+ years I've owned them? I have no problems properly attending to my firearms' maintenance, but I don't want to have to baby them with lubing every other day just to avoid rust.

    Thanks for any feedback peeps.

Check into CZs. I live a block off the beach, and in the couple years I had one it never had issues. I'll be picking up another in a few days, so I can check and see if the finish is the same.

I can hear the bells, I can hear the trumpets. I feel like testifying.

I carried a SIG P-239 on the job for many years. Because I lived in a very hot climate, the gun lived on my ankle for ten to a-lot-more hours a day. That is one sweaty, filthy environment in there. My pants leg trapped the sweat coming off my legs, ankle, and feet, so the pistol spent most of its working life in a salty steam bath. Dust, filth and corruption got kicked up into the pants leg and all over the pistol. I totally funkified a half dozen ankle holsters over the years, to the point they had to be disposed of by a HazMat team.

The pistol still looks very, very clean. I never had a rust problem, inside or out.

A stainless slide, alloy frame, and regular but definitely not obsessive maintenance.

Anyone who has a rust problem with that gun is doing something radically wrong.

I live 10 min from the beach and my SIG has never had a rust problem. Got a little surface rust on one of the original German mags but it wasn't anything a paper towel an a little oil couldn't fix.

Buy whatever you want send it off to Robar and have it refinished with NP3+ it'll never rust...ever.

You want reliable? You want something different, some variety? You want something in a DA/SA in .40 cal? You want something with no rust issues?

Consider a stainless revolver. They are ALL stainless. No rust to worry about with normal care.

Find yourself a 357 Ruger GP-100. Any condition, it'll be cheap. Then send it to this guy:

You'll have a custom 6-shooter for less money than a nice factory gun. Fits ALL your criteria. And more. The price is shockingly reasonable.

                Talk about variety!

SIG MK-25 is your best choice, if you don't mind 9mm. It's a standard service handgun for Navy. This model is exact same and has "anti-corrosion coatings on controls and internal components". Go for it without a doubt.

I am sure you will never touch Glocks again... well, other than selling those out and buying more Sigs

If you want something that is DA/SA in .40 cal and is similar to Glock with polymer construction, how about the Beretta PX4 Storm? The .40 cal version is CA legal so availability shouldn't be a problem.

Sig p229 mine stays close to a 240 gal saltwater tank. I haven't had an issue with corrosion.

Aren't most any of the finishes today pretty rust resistant compared to an older gun?
If taken care of and oiled I don't think you will have much rust problems with any modern firearm.

I carried a P230 as a backup for years on a vest holster. It was constantly drenched in sweat, and never had a problem with rust. The finish on the slide definitely looks worn, but no rust. I switched to a G27 mainly for mag compatibility with my G22, and the finish on the slide looks a lot better. Neither gun has ever had a rust problem though.

I have a 1988 West German P225 I used for many years. I got home one morning after a long and spooky operation, and as I was unloading I can still remember seeing a drop of sweat drip off my brow and splash on the side of the slide, right below the ejection port. That gun was black, some kind of phosphate finish or Parkerized, whatever they were doing back then.

It was about the middle of a Saturday morning, and I hadn't slept in about 30 hours. I can still remember saying to myself "No. It will be okay. I'll take care of it later. I'm going to bed."

Monday morning I pulled it out and found red bloom, right where I had sweated on it. I called myself a lazy, sweaty pig-man. Shortly after the pistol got hard chrome plated, and I still use it.

That wasn't the pistol's fault. That was my fault. I knew the gun was visibly wet, and I punked out, I didn't even wipe off the pig-sweat I could see glistening on it.

I am a sweaty, lazy, pig. Or at least I was that weekend.
