Sig 250 - Multi Caliber Slides & Frames

The Sig 250 is not CA approved - is there a big interest in getting the gun with 9mm, 357 Sig & 40 cal barrels & slides? Friend has one with all the calibers (except 45 ACP of course, different set up) some slides & plastic frames. I don't have much interest in Sigs - is this a hot item or a yawner?

Especially when a factor 40/347 P226 can have 40, 357 and 9mm setups (admittedly, the 9mm bbl is Bar-Sto aftermarket).

Hot item because it's the latest SIG but also a yawner because it's DAO only.

I'm kinda surprised that there's not more excitement over them. Being able to change calibers and size without having to DRoS a new handgun would be nice in CA. Kinda like the modularity of the AR platform.

DAO kills it for a lot of people. It would probably make a great carry piece though....

Funny, I was just talking to my coworker about this a couple minutes ago.

Right now they are available in .40SW and 9mm compact only. .45 won't be available until the summer, and the grip modules are tough to get. Caliber and slide conversions aren't available readily yet, and MSRP on the kits are in the $400s. MAP on the P250 is in the $600s.

I'm hoping to check one of their special editions out soon (has a carbon fiber frame) but I will certainly find a way to get one of the standard P250s eventually. The modularity excites me more than the HK45 and other can't-get handguns.

I played with 1 at Dublin Guns. (of course, LEO only) The trigger reset is WAY long. I love the idea, but I won't get one, if it ever becomes available.

I like the whole concept and is on my list of non-DOJ guns I want to get. 1st would be of course the HK45.


BTW, know of anyone with an HK45 and wants to sell it, swing them my way.

That's conflicting with what I've heard - that the delay in American release was to make sure that .45ACP would be compatible with the P250 platform. It's just taking them a while to tool up for the .45 because the European versions never accomodated it, unlike the 9mm/.357Sig/.40SW which are pretty similar.

Good to hear. getting a 45 ACP on to the same basic frame & chassis seems like a tough job. Do you recall from where you heard it's a delay & not an impossibility?

There already was a delay - they announced the P250 before SHOT 2007, with an excpected release in mid-2007, but it was delayed until late 2007/early 2008.

What is keeping them from releasing the .45 now is just ramping up production on the other P250s (9mm, .40, .357Sig), I guess. Plus they have a lot of other projects running now - working on the 556 pistol, Sig P220/226/229 .22lr conversions, and then the .45ACP P250.

With the P250 comes the requirement of producing different slides, barrels, grap modules, and magazines. It's a bit of work to get everything available for their new modular pistol, and right now they've only got the compact size available.

They've confirmed that a .45ACP P250 is coming, so I doubt it's an impossibility.

AFAIK, all the P250s will be interchangeable: 9mm, .40SW, .357Sig, .45ACP - that's the whole point of the platform.

ETA: this is per the Sig rep my shop has spoken to.

Not really, if that were the case then people would not be buying Glocks which are DAO also. The SIG 250 feels real good in my hand and the DAO trigger is real nice. It is an ideal carry gun.
