My girl has trouble actuating the mag release even with the extended version. I am thinking of getting this for her g19. I just might do my g17 twins (black and OD) as well if its that good. Anyone here ever do this? seems like a pretty drastic mod as you have to cut the frame. But it looks to be worth it though.

If either of you are going to be carrying this pistol, whether concealed or exposed, consider whether either of the mag catches that you're contemplating could interfere with your chosen holster(s). If so, you may have to mod the holster, catch or both to avoid having mags inadvertently released while holstering, drawing or in the holster.

That being said, I'd try the Ghost product before cutting your Glock's frame.

The magazine "release" on a glock wasnt meant to release the slide forward. Will it perform that function? yes. Its designed to stop the slide returning to battery after the last round is fired. almost every training vid and instructor ive seen use a glock does the hand over the top racking of the slide to chamber a fresh round. even glocks in house instructors advocate and teach this method to the leo's they train.

Try this method before dropping the money on a product you might not even need.

As for the OP's question, The Glock is designed to make you shift your grip to drop mags, I do it every time I do a reload. Is she trying to keep her strong hand glued to one position? Have her try rotating the grip until her thumb can reliably release the mag.

Ainako, I don't think it is a good idea to mess with the magazine release on a pistol. They are designed in such a way that you have to change your grip a little in order to press and release your magazine, this prevents accidental magazine release when you're firing.

If the ergonomics of a pistol prevents your gf from using it effectively, it means you'll be better off getting her another pistol.

If she has trouble with ALL the pistol, it might be her grip strength that is causing problems. Try having her train with these:

She can handle actuate the catch if she shifts her grip. I run the OEM extended catch and all the points that Grumpy made is actually one of the reasons why I am considering the mod. In theory it is supposed to make it easier to actuate without changing grip or using an extended part. So it shouldn't effect table grabs or draw strokes, in theory. This mag catch style is actually the way the Finnish glock 17 pro comes with. I wondered about the possibility of unwanted mag dumps but have noticed that the gen 4 catch is similar in width and rectangular. And I am not aware of accidental mag dumps with the gen 4s. I saw a video on the ghost low-pro mag catch and the guy said the plastic flexes. Also the people that I found that has done this mod were happy with it. Except it was only about a handful of people that did it. I was hoping someone in calguns has had hands on it and could tell me about it. Thanks for the advice guys.

Your lady won't be the first one who had to shift a Glock in her hand to release the magazine, even with an extended release. It's pretty common. When shooting right handed (I'm left handed), I can't release the magazine from a G17 without shifting my grip on the pistol. Another possible cure that you might want to consider something like this add-on ambi mag release if you can find one and have her release magazines with her trigger finger instead (like us southpaws do).

The best extended magazine catch I have personally used is the Vickers Tactical extended mag catch. One handed, their is little movement required and someone with good dexterity can actually push it forward to drop mags rather than the standard mag catch. Never had it accidentally drop mags.

The vickers part seems somewhat of a rip off to me, I can file down my #1982 release if I wanted to match the length and shape I suppose. Anyone have dimensions to the vickers vs oem?
