just checked out a sweet old revlover that i beleive was made back in 1934. I want to say it is a pre victory model. Anything I should look for before buying or shooting?

nice. I will take a ganderComment

if it was would i just need to swap the barrel and cylinder? or rather look for a different revolver.Comment
-
I checked and it says 38 S&W Special. Am I correct in assuming it can accept 38 special?Comment
-
yup, that would be the standard .38 Special.
It should say something like 38 S&W Special CTG on the barrel.
does it look like this one? If its real clean with the original finish, it should be a good buy. When they look like they have been dragged behind a tractor for a few miles, chances are it will have some mechanical issues as well.

looks just like that, but the blueing has a lot less luster than the one above, and the barrel may be an inch shorter. No scratches, pitting, or rust either. is $150 too much for this or am i getting a steal?Comment
-
if it only has minor cosmetic issues, $150 is a steal.www.culinagrips.com

Yes, that is a good deal. It can handle modern .38 Special ammunition, but steer clear of the +P and +P+ stuff. It is made with softer, pre-WWII steel and heat treatment. Neither of which will hold up well to a steady diet of hot loads. I believe that up until the Victory Model, these were still called M&P revolvers. It is after WWII that you have the ones that are considered to be Post M&P/ Pre Model 10, and those were only made for a few years.

If i were to in the future change the cylinder for a new one, and replace the barrel with a thicker barrel would i then be able to use +p or +p+? Its not very crucial since i have other self defense weapons, but I always like to know what options are available for future projects.Comment

Even if you got it for $150 and decided to swap out the barrel and replace the cylinder, you would come out upside down. The cylinder is a fitted part and you would need special tools or a gunsmith to properly replace the barrel. If you really want to shoot a steady diet of +p rated ammo, you are better of finding a revolver that is already rated for it.If i were to in the future change the cylinder for a new one, and replace the barrel with a thicker barrel would i then be able to use +p or +p+? Yeah i hear you on that. I kinda like the history factor in leaving it as is, but just askin. Thank you guys for all your input btw!Even if you got it for $150 and decided to swap out the barrel and replace the cylinder, you would come out upside down. No. It is the frame that is going to warp. Besides, there are better, more modern Model 10s out there to alter. Ones that are less historical. If i were to in the future change the cylinder for a new one, and replace the barrel with a thicker barrel would i then be able to use +p or +p+?
