empty holsters

this maybe a odd question... but can you walk around with an empty holster on your hip? is it illegal or is it a cause for you to be stopped since "open carry" is illegal in ca?

I don't think it is illegal, unless you count being stupid is against the law.

Is this for the rally? I think they're just being idiotic. Staging something like won't help much and may even be counter productive since it might scare non-gun owners and paints us as a bunch of red neck show-offs.

If you want to help the causes of gun ownership, the best thing is simply to spend money on it. Go to the range often, buy ammo and maybe buy a new gun once a while. This is America, money == power. The richer the firearms industry is, the more difficult it will be for the government to pass laws against it.

As far as I know, not illegal. But, why in the world would you purposely attract unwanted attention? Got money burning in your pocket and want to spend it on legal fees?

To my knowledge, not illegal.

To my knowledge, poking myself in the eye with a sharp stick is not illegal either.

the original idea wasn't for making a protest. my friend is a prepper and he wants to walk his "escape" route fully loaded,(food, tent, ammo etc.) which would include his Ruger p85. he was planning to open carry it, until he was told that open carry is illegal; so he was planning an empty holster with sand bags to for the weight of his gun.

There is nothing illegal about it. You can even carry loaded magazines in the mag carrier as there is nothing illegal about that either. I do it probably at least once a month. After our local IDPA club matches a group of us grab lunch and are typically still wearing our holsters, and magazine carriers. Every once and a while someone notices and gives you a look, but most people don't even notice.

My friends always tell me that if wearing and empty holster ever becomes illegal that it'll be my fault.
