Any Pre-1960 S&W in very good shape can hold it's own with a Python, and the Pre-27s are much nicer shooting revolvers to boot.
Though I have a good collection of Pythons, I'm an N-frame fanatic; an original Registered Magnum, triple-locks on up through pre-27 to 27-2 models accentuate several areas of my collection, so you are preaching to my choir of one! Agree entirely!!

even on gunbroker the pythons are selling for ridiculous amounts. the average 2 1/2" is going for well above 2500.00, the insanity of the pricing is sickening

Yes I agree , it is not just California's market it is everywhere..
I talked to a lady from Colt today and she said she isn't sure what model but something from colts double action line is in the works for next year.. I'm sure it will be another run or the python elite .but anything added
To California's roster will have micro stamping and she says colt is not doing any of that for California complianace. Only the elite stainless 6" is currently on roster.

Pure FUD if she is referring to requirements of micro-stamping on revolvers or you understood it that way. The backwards law only requires microstamping on auto-loaders. Unless you just worded the above incorrectly. This is WHY I suspect we will see Colt release more revolvers in the near future, to encourage a continued presence in the CA market.

No doubt the marketing at Colt knows of the mystique and legendary pricing that used Colt Pythons bring in; they would be fools not to re-release a Python in the near future considering where the legislative chips are falling against auto-loaders and ARs. But then Colt's marketing and R&D have been comprised of fools for nearly 2 decades, it would not surprise me if they drop the ball on it.

My 6" Python is priceless as is my 8 3/8" model 27.
I shoot my 686s better than the Python, but my shooting mentor could out shoot me using it against me shooting a 686.
When he passed away I inhertited it and thus to me, priceless. It is a safe queen now and only gets shown to friends.
Anyone have a source for Python wood grips with the Colt emblem on them?

If colt starts making them again then the bubble will deflate a lot.

How would it deflate?? Even if they did a limited run .. They would NOT be on CA roster because colt says they will not accommodate California's micro stamping in any way . And anything added to roster next year will need the micro stamp.. SO they will not be available to us and besides the originals will always be worth more. Especially if a new run comes out people
Will always want the older more rare ones

Again with this? Where are you getting this FUD about microstamping; and why are you spreading it further?

Revolvers are not included in the Microstamping requirements, only auto-loaders. So your point is false. BECAUSE the microstamping requirement does NOT apply to revolvers is the VERY reason Colt may re-introduce the Python into production (not just as a custom-shop Elite).

Not to mention that the whole Roster and microstamping silliness is likely going to be thrown out on their collective ears due to current litigation.

Well, OK, older ones will of course be rare, but it will deflate if Colt produces them again. For one thing, CA is not the entire market Who cares about the roster outside of CA? If some guy outside of CA can get it from the LGS, that's one less person to jack up the price for the one you are trying to get. More supply = less demand = cheaper prices for those who are demanding.

Also, the FUD about microstamping revolvers, etc. THough I doubt the roster will disappear.

When you factor the price of a S@W custom shop revolver the Python isn't a bad price considering how nice a python is.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

What about the 8 inch barrel? (python hunter) I wonder if they release the elite and do not include the 8 inch barrel if this would hold it's value or continue to increase
