    Met Someone Interesting Today

Went to pickup this puppy today:

When I got to the shop, my FFL was on the phone, so an older gentleman and I struck up conversation. He was friendly, had a good sense of humor, and introduced himself as John. He didn't seem like a customer, but more like a friend of the shop. He was curious about the gun I was there to pickup and didn't seem familiar with the model when I told him. I offered to let him check it out. Few minutes later, my FFL brings the gun out, in single shot config. John's eyes get real wide as he checks out the odd config and after we explained SSE to him, he said his shop could easily make these long barrels. I said, "You have a shop? Which shop is that?". He said, "Jardine's Custom". I was floored! Here I was talking to a kind, laid back gentleman, and it turns out he's John Jardine, one of the premiere 1911 gunsmiths. All in all, not a bad day

John is one of the good guys. When I worked ay Bullseye in Castro Valley he used to come in and grab guns that didnt run just to see if eh could get them to work. Gosh I wish I had half of his talent.

If only he was taking work from non-LEO/mil/gov people. It's not the end of the world to send your gun off in the mail, but I would love to drop it off in person... and discuss any potential changes/problems in person.

That's a great day! John is definitely one of the good guys and is absolutely one of the premier smiths today. I recently got a very well used series 70 Colt back from him and couldn't be happier. In my book, he's one of the top 10 in the business!
