    Whats the Difference?

    So I am a former owner of a XDm .40 and regrettably sold it a while back. The wifey is wanting a new pistol and has hinted at the fact that she really liked the XD. So I am now looking for one in 9mm for her. But even after researching the lines on Springfield's website, I can not tell the difference in the XD, XDs and XDm line ups. Ok, I know there are some size differences and I know I am looking for the compact model. She doesn't CC but the smaller frame fits her hands really nicely. And the both of us have only ever shot my XDm. Is there major differences I should be aware of?

    I think the xdm has some upgraded features. What they are, I'm not sure. Maybe a match grade barrel and night sights and a better trigger? I'm sure someone will chime in. The xds line is a single stack pistol chambered in either 9 or 45 geared more towards concealed carry. So yes there are differences.

        XD = first design.

        XDM = I think it stands for more = changeable back straps, match barrel, more agressive grip texture, rear sight are edged all the way back.
        That's all the main difference I can think of, I am sure that are more.

        XDS, that the tiny 1 inch thick, made for carry.

        The only "compact" is the XDM 3.8 Compact.
        The XD Service is a 4" barrel but with a full size grip.

        IMO, since there is no trigger difference, save some $ with the XD and get a PRP or Springer trigger kit.
        Or just get a 1911-9mm

          being a XDM owner of both the 3.8 and 5.25 9mm models the big difference is the aggressive grip on the slide, the match barrel, changeable back straps (1,2,3) sizes.

          my 3.8 has the option for 12 rd short stack mags and 19rd std mags. the 5.25 has night sights and runs the 19rd mags.

          own both models all parts are interchangeable. which is nice

          the XDS is just the single stack version. in 6rd mags but springfield now offers a 10rd mag for them..... which i really want

            ^^^ The new XDs 9mm is 7+1, and they offer 9 round mags which comes with a grip extension. I just ordered a couple from Springfield.

              Thank you for the links

              And thanks to everybody kind of streamlining my homework assignment for the evening. We are leaning towards the XDm 3.8...will update on what she finally decides. Anyone care to suggest where to find of these actually in stock at a decent price? Last I heard they were a bit scarce.

                xdm and xds are not on roster. can be difficult to find depending on your location. i think there are a few FFLs willing to deal with SSEs down socal though. there might be a panic buy going on right now with people afraid of the SSE ban
