For those who bought guns foolishly

I was one of them..... I bought my wife Charter snub nose & Glock 22 and I got myself Glock 19 before the training. Later on, got me another one which is Sig 226 (.40 ) that I ended up liking.

After the training, we started going to an outdoor range and she tried all the guns. She fell in love with Sig and didn't want to use the rest. So I ended up selling the rest for about 40% less than what I paid for. Another mistake! Amateur!

She now has Sig 226 9mm and Mosquito. I now have Sig p226 9mm & .40 and S&W 686. We're both happy with our babies.

Don't beat yourself over it. Most of us have done the same thing at one time or another.

I think that's why you should rent the guns to try them before purchasing.

This. Always try the gun first before buying. My wife wanted to buy a gun (imagine that! luck me...) and she liked the look of a S&W 686. Took her to the range and found out the gun was really too heavy for her to be comfortable and the double action pull too heavy.

I did have fun with it though, the blast from a 357 magnum is pretty spectacular.

Same here. I have bought and sold too many and all of my sales were at a loss - from 20% to 40%. But then again, I would like to consider such losses as rental fees and knowledge gained. Steep, I know, but oh well. Now I have a really good idea of what I want.

When the guns that I am curious about are for rent, I do rent first. But for the most part, the guns that I have bought and eventually sold were not for rent. So I had to "force" myself to "rent" them.

I think I will be nore effective and efficient in buying guns in the next 20+ years. I just hope that the laws by then will still allow us to do so.

This does raise an interesting question on why guns manufacturers not do what automotive manufacturer does, have showrooms of ALL available make/models and let customers test them.

A firearm is a very personal thing, you can read all the articles and watch all the videos you want, but it'll be very different when you pick up a gun and fire it. What works for one will not work for another.

Some places like Reed's Indoor Range (nice place btw, highly recommended) have a nice selection for rental but they don't have all the make/models. It'll be nice if they do.

YES! It is a very personal thing. I would be sure to visit such show rooms, if there were any, let me tell you that. Heck, they can charge rental fees, etc. At least I know exactly what I am buying...

Now, first hypothetical showroom that comes to mind is a Wilson Combat show room. Am I asking for too much?

Agree! buying a gun is like a car. Circling around the car, kicking the tires, looking under the hood are just perception. Test driving it will give you the feel.

Wish I'd rented some prior to buying but at that time I didn't know anybody who owns gun that can take me to a range.

The money that was wasted could have been spent on another Sig. Drolling over MK25. Tooooo bad! We're broke.

Bought and sold a full size M&P 9 for a G19, only to sell that for a G17. Now I own both guns I sold initially on top of the G17. Of course like a lot of people, I thought only needed 1 handgun... Yeah, not so much.

You are not alone OP. In the past 3 years, I have bought roughly 30 handguns in used and new conditions and have sold 20 of them. My problem is I still have not found the ONE that I really like. Some of them were not available at the range to try. In addition, I have to fondle it, clean it, take it apart and understand how the internal parts work, and at the end shoot it to really like it.

I am working on the 31st right now and hope that this one is the last...

Been there done that. I bought a M&P45 and after a couple hundred rounds I sold it. I recently bought a SR45 and same thing it just didn't fit so now it's for sale. Most do it thats why when someone asks about a gun most say go out and rent it if you can.
